What are the responsibilities and job description for the ABE / HSE Program Instructor position at Sussex County Community College?
Sussex County Community College is seeking a part time ABE / HSE Program Instructor. This part time, grant funded position will serve the adult education community on a county and area wide basis by providing non-credit classes focused on conversational skills, speaking / listening, literacy, numeracy, basic skills, workforce readiness, and High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation under the Consolidated Adult Basic Skills and Integrated English Literacy and Civics Education single year grant awards from the NJ Department of Labor.
This position is needed for a Monday / Wednesday evening class 4:30pm - 8:30pm.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts skills and knowledge assessments on all prospective students through program software (CASAS)
- Develops Individual Education Plans (IEPs) based on CASAS test scores and student performance, monitors academic progress, and reviews/revises IEPs.
- Instructs students enrolled in the ABE/HSE Program according to WIOA Title II guidelines..
- Provides comprehensive basic skills and HSE instruction in Math, Reading, Writing, Science and Social Studies. Provides remote, in class, and hybrid instruction as appropriate.
- Provides essential computer skills instruction including the use of AZTEC software.
- Maintains accurate student records and completes state required forms for grant reporting and state monitoring.
- Selects course textbooks, develops curriculum and instructional approaches.
- Tracks and inputs daily attendance hours.
- Attends all meetings and professional development trainings to fulfill grant requirements.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor's Degree with a concentration in one or more of the following areas: Education, Adult Education, Special Education, Math, English, or Science
Essential Skills:
- Knowledge and experience in ESL education in an instructional setting
- Classroom teaching experience
- Computer skills - Proficient with a range of hardware and software (including Zoom, CASAS, AZTEC, Microsoft Office, Windows, Canvas) for instruction and data management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a strong team player
- Ability to work autonomously with little supervision.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel independently, within NJ to attend meetings and trainings.
