Job Description
Do you have transferrable experience for the Structural Engineer position, a positive attitude, and are looking to join a highly collaborative and people-focused company?
The Structural Engineer position is responsible for completing structural reviews and designs for bridges, culverts, retaining walls, and sign structures as well as preparing and/or checking plans to support transportation-focused projects.
The Structural Engineer will work collaboratively with Structural Designers, Engineers, and Technicians and will be given the responsibility of completing structural design and review tasks for PennDOT, the Pennsylvania Turnpike, and PA DCNR projects. The Structural Engineer will also be responsible for attending design meetings with Task Managers; attending events and association meetings; and applying technical knowledge and experience to perform a wide-array of design assignments.

Typical Duties:
- Complete or review structural design computations, sketches, reports, cost estimates; prepares complete project documents. With experience, may serve as lead Structural Engineer in the completion of structural design tasks and preparations of complete project documents.
- Ensure adherence to design standards and criteria.
- Coordinate with and supervise CADD technicians. Check structure drawings against the completed design and standards.
- Identify and propose solutions to design issues as they arise.
- Review fabricator shop drawings for compliance with contract documents and design standards.
- Review other consultants’ designs for conformity to design manuals and standards.
- Communicate and coordinate design elements as needed with other disciplines team members and external team members.
- Represent Susquehanna Civil at networking events and associations; develop client relationships as the opportunity arises. May fill in as a Susquehanna Civil alternate or accompany a senior engineer at external project meetings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills, Transferrable Experience, & Certifications:
- Minimum Education: Bachelor’s
- Professional License: EIT or PE (a plus)
- Minimum experience: 4-16 years
- Certification: Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (a plus)
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- An understanding of structural design and knowledge of PennDOT Design Manuals and Standards.
- Experience using Bentley MicroStation CADD systems and PennDOT computer-based design programs.
- Exhibits strong problem-solving skills.
- Proficient oral and written communication skills; will be expected to clearly communicate issues through written reports and will be expected to communicate effectively with other team members.
- Proven ability to work in a team environment.
- Works independently and possesses strong time management skills as well as critical thinking skills.
- Exhibits self-motivation for meeting schedules and responding to requests.
- Demonstrates excellent organizational skills for use in the production of required structural design deliverables.
- Possesses sound judgment regarding structural design decisions.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Ability to understand project schedules/budgets and complete work tasks within specific timeframes and budgets. Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.

Offered rate of compensation for this full-time position will be based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. This job operates in a professional office environment.
