Component Engineer

The Components Engineer is responsible for managing electronic components throughout their full lifecycle, including parts selection, acceptance, qualification, obsolescence management, and failure analysis. This role provides critical engineering support for power supply design and collaborates cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and procurement teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Research, compare, and select electronic components for new and existing products, packages, and electronic subassemblies.

• Identify replacements for obsolete electrical components and update current designs accordingly.

• Utilize SiliconExpert as a Bill of Material (BOM) obsolescence analysis tool for monitoring the health of BOMs and active parts lists.

• Provide electrical engineering support, particularly for component specifications and selection, for power supply design in support of failure analysis and obsolescence mitigation.

• Evaluate Part Change Notices from manufacturers, determine potential impact to design, and coordinate actions resulting from evaluation.

• Perform calculations, analysis, and evaluations in the application and design of electrical equipment and systems for industrial and commercial applications.

• Collaborate with process and manufacturing engineers in support of design for manufacturing and design for test.

• Support testing and documentation of updated designs.

• Support Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) analysis.

• Utilize MRP and configuration management tools; update product documentation to reflect design changes.

• Support failure analysis of power supplies including circuit analysis, troubleshooting, and evaluation down to the component and sub-component level using hardware, drawings, and schematics.

• Prepare business case analyses for obsolete components.

• Serve as Point of Contact for Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Procurement in resolving part issues; create and revise internal standard part selection procedures, technically evaluate manufacturing issues and concerns, and support second sourcing and Diminishing Manufacturing Sources (DMS) activities.

• Support continuous improvement of operating procedures related to component evaluation.

• Travel as needed to visit suppliers.

• Participate in reviews with customers.

• Ability to work flexible hours and/or different shifts as required.

• Maintain a safe and professional work environment, adhering to all regulatory requirements including OSHA, EPA, and applicable State and Federal Regulations.

• Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality in support of team productivity and customer product schedules.
