What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electronic Repair Technician position at Survey Equipment Services?
Responsible for diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing a wide range of electronic equipment and components, including Unmanned Surface Vehicles and Underwater Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs). This position also supports the return and quality inspection of rental equipment, ensuring all items meet operational and safety standards before reissue. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working independently or as part of a team in a fast-paced technical environment.
Responsibilities
- Inspect, test, and diagnose electronic devices, systems, and components to identify faults and malfunctions.
- Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams to assist with troubleshooting and repair.
- Use electronic test equipment such as multimeters and soldering tools.
- Maintain accurate repair records, including parts used, work performed, and test results.
- Calibrate, configure, and perform functional tests on repaired equipment to verify operational accuracy.
- Receive, inspect, and test returned rental equipment to confirm functionality and identify any needed maintenance or repairs before restocking.
- Document and track rental returns, noting equipment condition, missing components, and performance test results.
- Assist with equipment logistics, including occasional pickups or deliveries to customers or vendors.
- Support equipment installation, setup, and field service when required.
- Assist in inventory management and procurement of repair parts and tools.
- Communicate repair findings and recommendations to supervisors and customers clearly and professionally.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
- Associate degree or technical certification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field, or
- 2 years of experience in electronic repair, diagnostics, or maintenance preferred.
Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong understanding of analog and digital circuits.
- Proficient in soldering and rework of surface mount and through-hole components.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with diagnostic tools, test benches, and calibration procedures.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record preferred.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 60 lbs.
- Manual dexterity for handling small components and tools.
- Visual acuity for detailed inspection and soldering tasks.
Preferred Experience (Optional):
- Experience with marine survey electronics.
- Familiarity with ROV, AUV, sonar, or positioning systems.
- Knowledge of computer networking and firmware updates.
- Perform repairs and component replacements on circuit boards, sensors, power supplies, and other electronic assemblies.
