JOB SUMMARY
A Property Claims Adjuster is responsible for reviewing and managing contractor estimates and repair scopes on property claims, ensuring accuracy, appropriate pricing, policy compliance, and proper documentation while working directly with contractors to resolve scope and cost discrepancies and control claim severity. This role requires a strong understanding of insurance and company policies to ensure coverage is valid and to negotiate a fair settlement amount for the claim.
DUTIES
- Responsible for reviewing and managing contractor estimates and repair scopes on property claims, ensuring accuracy, appropriate pricing, policy compliance, and proper documentation while working directly with contractors to resolve scope and cost discrepancies and control claim severity.
- Negotiate settlements with policyholders and/or third parties.
- Manage supplements, inventory of items, and recoverable depreciation requests from insureds and contractors. Quality assurance with third-party estimate reviews.
- Prepare detailed claim reports and recommendations.
- Review policy terms to determine coverage and limitations.
- Inspect property damage and gather documentation (photos, police reports, repair estimates)
- Investigate property insurance claims by interviewing claimants, witnesses, and professionals (e.g., contractors).
- Coordinate with legal counsel or external investigators when necessary.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and company-specific laws and regulations.
- Provide superior customer support throughout the claim resolution process.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of insurance policies, coverage rules, and claim processes.
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record are required.
- Ability to evaluate damage estimates and repair costs.
- Familiarity with claims management software (e.g., Xactimate & Diamond Claims System)
- Strong written documentation and reporting skills to maintain regulatory compliance and accurate recordkeeping.
- Strong attention to detail is crucial for accuracy in data entry, document review, and ensuring policy correctness.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are essential for building rapport and conveying complex information clearly. Must be able to show empathy and professionalism when working with claimants.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and Word).
- Expenses are paid via a charge account. Must be able to follow company guidelines regarding the acceptable use of a company credit card.
- The ability to work independently, manage a given territory, and prioritize time effectively is critical.
- Good time management and ability to handle multiple claims and inspections at once.
- Knowledge of land and building codes within a given territory.
COMPLIANCE AND REPORTING
- Ensure compliance with state laws and regulations, company policies, and claims handling best practices.
- Maintain accurate and organized claim file documentation.
- Meet or exceed performance metrics such as cycle times, quality audits, and customer satisfaction scores.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field like business, insurance, risk management, or a related field is preferred.
- Active adjuster license(s) as required by state regulations, or the ability to obtain a Texas license within a specified timeframe.
- A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required.
- A minimum of 2–5 years of experience in claims, real estate, construction, or a related field within the insurance industry is preferred.
PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to frequently work at a desk using a computer for up to 8 hours a day.
- Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 50 pounds and set up equipment. (e.g., ladders, measuring tools)
- Ability to do occasional travel in an automobile and work in the field 8 hours per day.
- Ability to bend, twist, squat, and climb a ladder
- Ability to occasionally climb on a roof, inspect attic spaces, crawl spaces, and other challenging environments.
