Apprentice Line Technician

APPRENTICE LINE TECHNICIAN

FULLTIME/PARTTIME: Fulltime

TYPICAL HOURS WORKED: 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday – Friday*; on-call rotation and other overtime hours as needed. Occasional travel may be required for meetings.

EDUCATION REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent

REPORTS TO: Crew Supervisor

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

· Must reside within 30 miles of SYEMC office;

· 2 years of experience

· Specialized training which includes live-line tools and applied electricity.

· Working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code.

· Proven ability to perform all types of related line work.

· Ability to learn and interpret maps, specifications, staking sheets, and complex diagrams.

· Ability to maintain records required for time worked and materials.

· Thorough knowledge of first-aid, safety rules, line materials and tools and their use.

· Valid “Class A” CDL Driver’s License required.

· Must be able to ascend/descend/work at heights, meeting all safety requirements.

· Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays on an on-call basis.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

May perform any combination of the following: (duties may include, but are not limited to):

· Ascend/descend secondary poles with Class A Lineman present.

· Can work single phase de-energized line with Class A Lineman present.

· Must work and maintain line truck, as well as such duties as Crew Foreman requires.

· Some working knowledge of bucket truck required.

· Working knowledge on SYEMC framing specifications and materials needed to frame poles.

· Knowledge of SYEMC mapping and SYEMC system territories.

· Must perform Pole Top Rescue and Bucket Rescue.

· Must start duty work “on call rotation” with Class A Lineman.

· Begin de-energized underground maintenance and pad mount work with Class A Lineman present.

· Works outdoors 95% of the time in all types of weather conditions and environmental conditions such as holes in the ground, fallen branches, rough terrain or heavy underbrush

· Works in no or low light conditions using handheld lantern or spot lights

· Works in potentially hazardous conditions caused by pets and wildlife in or near the work site

· Works in areas with possible exposure to poison oak, poison ivy, and insect stings

· Attend ongoing training as required.

WORK CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

· This position contains a weight restriction of 275 pounds as an essential function of the job. The purpose of this restriction is to ensure that all weight-rated equipment is used in an appropriate and safe manner within maximum allowed weight loading.

· Must be able to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays on an on-call basis.

· Must be able to work outside during all weather conditions on a regular and/on-call basis, in a safe and productive manner.

· May move up to 50 pounds in a safe manner.
