Surry Rural Health Center in Mount Airy, NC is looking for a medical records clerk to join our team. The Medical Records Clerk will oversee the organization and maintenance of patient records in our healthcare facility and perform various clerical tasks.
Responsibilities
- Performs high-volume scanning of patient records
- Reviews, distributes, and assigns all incoming faxes for the office using the EHR system
- Prints and faxes patient reports to referring doctors as needed
- Files new medical records
- Pulls charts, records, and other medical information when needed
- Attends training sessions as required
- Processes patient record requests
- Issuing medical files to persons and agencies according to laws and regulations
- Helping with departmental audits and investigations
- Ensure patient charts, paperwork, and reports are completed in an accurate and timely manner
- Complete clerical duties including answering phones, responding to emails
- Works closely with administration and staff to support requests from patients and outside entities by obtaining records to support the patient's care.
- Retrieve, collect, and prioritize all requests for medical records made through the organization, patients, and affiliates.
- Verify the legitimacy, accuracy, and authority of all such requests and then process and invoice as appropriate.
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of applicable policies, processes, laws, and regulations.
- Assist patients, staff, and affiliates with medical records requests and questions.
- Participate in improving quality throughout the organization.
- Performs other clerical tasks when needed
Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of healthcare and medical records preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of HIPAA requirements
- Detail-oriented and able to maintain data accuracy
- Proficient in MS Office
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Knowledge of modern office equipment
- Ability to maintain records and files
- Ability to operate a computer
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
