The Marketing Specialist will lead efforts to promote the Surry-Yadkin Works program, highlight student and business success stories, and strengthen the program’s presence across digital and print platforms. This role is ideal for a creative, organized communicator who enjoys storytelling, community outreach, and building brand visibility.

Work Schedule
  • Part-time position averaging 25-29 hours per week.
  • Flexible scheduling with some required attendance at community or school events.


About Surry-Yadkin Works
Surry-Yadkin Works is a regional collaborative pre-apprenticeship program connecting local high school and college students with hands-on work experiences across Surry and Yadkin Counties. Our mission is to strengthen the local workforce, empower students, and support businesses through meaningful partnerships and community engagement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies that align with program goals and community engagement efforts.
  • Manage Surry-Yadkin Works’ social media platforms, website updates, and digital content.
  • Create and distribute newsletters, press releases, and promotional materials.
  • Capture and edit photos and videos to showcase student experiences, business partners, and program milestones.
  • Coordinate with schools, businesses, and community partners for media features and special events.
  • Maintain brand consistency across all materials and communications.
  • Track engagement metrics and recommend strategies for continuous improvement.
  • Support event planning, including student recognition events, community presentations, and business partner spotlights.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work area

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business correspondence and reports.
  • Ability to articulate professional responses to common inquiries and/or complaints from students, faculty, staff, or the public at-large.
  • Ability to write using proper grammar and punctuation.
  • Ability to effectively present information to administration, students, faculty, staff, or the public at-large.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to apply and understand standard mathematical operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Understanding of and commitment to the unique nature and role of the College and to the philosophy of the community college system.
Required Qualifications
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Graphic Design, or a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Other educational backgrounds will be considered with relevant marketing, communications, or design experience.
  • Strong written, verbal, and visual communication skills.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn) and basic design tools (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.).
  • Experience with photography, video creation, or website content management a plus.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate within a small team environment.
  • Interest in education, workforce development, or community engagement is a plus.
