What are the responsibilities and job description for the Visual Arts Director position at Surry Arts Council?
The Board of Directors of the Surry Arts Council is seeking a dynamic, motivated professional with management and leadership expertise, exceptional integrity, outstanding interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, passion, and commitment to Surry Arts Council’s history, tradition, and reputation.
The Surry Arts Council operates the Andy Griffith Playhouse, The Andy Griffith Museum, The Historic Earle Theatre, and the Blackmon Amphitheatre. The Visual Arts Director will be involved in education programing, fundraising, event planning, and more within these facilities.
Major Responsibilities:
- Provides effective management and leadership of the artistic aspects of the Surry Arts Council (including visual arts, crafts, special needs, and community theatre) consistent with its vision and mission.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates programming, workshops, summer camps, and educational experiences for each year.
- Promoting visual and cultural arts in our community and expanding our network of visual artists.
- Support staff in communicating and scheduling with schools to achieve in-school cultural arts programs.
- Maintaining a calendar of events for all venues, programs, events, and rental facility-use schedules.
- Recruits and trains volunteers.
- Assisting with Annual Fund Drive.
- Cross-training with other employees, filling in as needed.
An interest in dance, theatre, musical theatre, and/or directing future performances is preferred, but not a requirement.
Degree in art or theatre is preferred. Recent college graduates are encouraged to apply.
This position has both part-time and full-time potential, depending on experience.
