General Summary of Duties:
Patient Care Assistant (PCA) supports the fast-paced, team-oriented ambulatory surgery center (ASC). This role is ideal for an individual who enjoys patient interaction, staying busy, and contributing to a collaborative healthcare environment. The PCA plays a vital role in ensuring efficient patient flow, maintaining clean and organized clinical spaces, and supporting nursing staff in delivering high-quality patient care.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Assist with patient transport, including escorting patients and families throughout the facility
- Support nursing staff with basic patient care needs under supervision
- Prepare patients for care, including offering drinks and snacks as appropriate
- Maintain efficient patient flow across pre-op, PACU, and procedure areas
- Perform room turnover, including cleaning and preparing rooms between patients
- Stock and organize clinical and supply areas; monitor supply levels and submit orders to Materials Management (MM)
- Remove and dispose of soiled linens and trash in accordance with infection control guidelines
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized patient care and common areas
- Assist with clinical log data entry and other administrative or office tasks as assigned
- Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and visitors
- Support general operations and perform additional duties as assigned
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Coursework in healthcare, medical assisting, or patient care preferred
- CNA Certification preferred
Qualifications:
- Previous healthcare experience preferred; willing to train the right candidate
- Strong work ethic with a positive, can-do attitude
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team-oriented environment
- High level of reliability, punctuality, and attendance
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, lifting, and transporting patients
- Reliable transportation required
