HIIM Manager
Full-Time / M-F
8:00AM to 5:00PM
Role/Position Definition: The Manager of HIIM is responsible for managing the Health Informatics and Health Information Management Departments’ daily operations of coding, assembly & analysis, forms management, transcription, ROI, clinical documentation improvement activities and process improvement initiatives. Responsible for the design and workflow analysis required with electronic data exchanges to meet regulatory requirements. Provide support to HIIM departments at the facility level for department operations, reimbursement opportunities, regulatory compliance, application support and HIIM specific system installations.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:
- Education/Experience
- Current certification (listed below) is required and bachelor’s degree or higher in HIM is required.
- Minimum five (5) years of HIM supervisor and/or managerial level experience required
- Preferred experience in acute care hospital setting.
- Preferred knowledge of information systems and healthcare applications in addition to database applications and report writing software.
- Strong experience in Medical Coding for an inpatient surgical facility with the ability to use coding systems to properly classify diagnosis and procedure. Must have the ability to be the point person for the organization on Medical Coding.
- Preferred experience with multiple clinical information systems (Cerner) and system interface
- Licensure/Certification (one or more of the following)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
- Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT)
- Certified Professional in Health Information Technology (CPHIT)
- Certified Professional in Electronic Health Records (CPEHR)
- Certified Professional in Health Information Exchange (CPHIE)

Work Environment:
- Subject to prolonged sitting including typing and viewing of computer monitor.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for working with Billing team while using coding systems to classify diagnosis and procedures in a surgical setting, which is essential for accurate billing and reimbursement.
- Manages HIIM staff and is responsible for hiring, corrective action and termination.
- Establishes department goals and objectives.
- Responsible for maintaining and securing all written and electronic medical records for the facility and all locations.
- Responsible for ensuring patient information contained in the record is complete and accurate.
- Provides direction to the health information management functions for all departments within the hospital.
- Maintains and monitors facility physician delinquency report, quality reports, department logs and operational obligations on a consistent basis.
- Manages transcription services with vendors and assures proper distribution of documentation to physicians.
- Develops and maintains tools, resources, and databases to accurately capture and interpret key metrics and data.
- Develops documents and enforces the hospital’s health informatics and information management policies and procedures.
- Manages HIIM operations annual budget.
- Compiles monthly activity / project summaries and key metrics and reports to the controller monthly.
- Coordinates facility HIIM functions with the clinical operations departments within the hospital to enhance the physician-facility relationship.
- Provides oversight and coordination of the medical record form's program.
- Serves as an internal consultant on health information management issues including release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval, and record retention.
- Assists in planning, developing and presenting educational opportunities for clinical documentation improvement, charging processes, and other related areas.
- Coordinates SCMC HIIM due diligence activities.
- Negotiates and maintains vendor contracts.
- Serves as Chair of HIIM and Forms Committee.
- Supports SCMC HIIM Compliance Program by demonstrating adherence to all relevant compliance policies and HIPAA Privacy and Security Regulations.
- Coordinates with other hospital management to support SCMC facilities in a congruent fashion.
