Responsibilities: 

Under general supervision, reviews medical records and assigns diagnostic and procedure codes using ICD-9-CM/ICD-10-CM (as applicable) and CPT-4 coding classification systems. Assigns and sequences all codes following coding guidelines published by the American Hospital Association and American Medical Association to assure appropriate DRG assignment. Performs data entry utilizing multi-grouper encoding systems as applicable. Adheres to the American Health Information Management Association code of ethics. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Revenue.   

Requirements: 

A.    Education/Experience

• High School Diploma/GED required
• Surgical Coding experience required 
• Minimum of 3-5 years coding experience required

B.    Licensure/Certification

• Must possess one or more of the following certifications: CCS, CPC, CPC-H, RHIA, RHIT

C.   Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of coding software
• Knowledge of major disease process, pharmacology, and concepts of disease.
• Knowledge of classification systems, IDC-9-CM/ICD-10-CM nomenclature, and CPT-4 coding guidelines.
• Skill in understanding medical/surgical coding procedures and protocols.
• Skill in interpreting and applying ethical coding standards .
• Good communication skills.
