Job Description:
Surface Systems & Instruments, Inc. (SSI) manufactures sophisticated test equipment for measuring pavement surface characteristics and land surveying applications (see www.smoothroad.com). From our office in Auburn, CA, we assemble, test and ship devices worldwide. In addition, SSI’s California facility provides a variety of services to support customers, including installations of components on customer vehicles, technical assistance with hardware issues and spare parts. We also offer on-site customer support and project testing services, which require occasional travel. SSI is a growing company with opportunities for long term personal and professional achievement.
At SSI, you will be working with a small team of personnel based in CA, KS SC, and WA. Our personnel come from diverse backgrounds and collaborate to complete tasks to fulfill a wide variety of challenging customer needs and internal engineering projects. Tasks that you can expect to work on include, but are not limited to:
- Assembly of test equipment devices, including hardware components, sensors, cabling and computers.
- Fulfillment of customer support orders for components or spare parts.
- Maintaining online records for inventory, shipments, and support cases.
- Working directly with customers to provide a solution or support that fits their needs.
- Maintaining a clean and well-organized shop facility.
- Occasional travel to provide testing services or operator training sessions.
- Attending some industry events and trade shows.
While working on these tasks, you will work with the following components:
- A wide variety of finished metal parts and signal cables.
- Lasers, accelerometers and inclinometers.
- HD cameras, high accuracy GPS and IMU sensors.
- Proprietary data collection electronics.
- Computers and a variety of software applications.
- Mount hardware for attaching instrumentation to a variety of different vehicles.
Qualifications:
It is preferred that Candidates for this role possess at least an Associate or Bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0. Engineering studies or experience is a positive. Ability to perform hardware assembly, routine shop work and at least basic computer skills is required. Relevant experience is valued.
Required Attributes:
- Must be a self-motivated worker that works well alone and as part of a team.
- Must be able to move quickly back-and-forth between several tasks.
- Ability to communicate with customers and coworkers effectively and positively.
- Interest and ability to do a variety of shop work (involving standing and moving frequently).
- Experience with computers (Windows OS and programs) and web-based applications.
- Ability to travel occasionally, including overnight.
