Summary
The role of the Uninterrupted Power Source (UPS) Technical Lead involves technical strategy, design, implementation, and maintenance of critical power systems within an organization. This role bridges business objectives with technical execution to ensure reliable and continuous power for critical infrastructures like data centers, hospitals, and industrial facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategic Planning: Defining and executing the company's technical roadmap for power systems, aligning technical goals with overall business objectives.
System Design and Architecture: Overseeing the design, deployment, and integration of complex electrical systems, including UPS units, generators, and power distribution units (PDUs).
Technical Leadership & Mentorship: Supervising, mentoring, and developing a team of engineers and technicians. Serve as the primary subject matter expert for all UPS-related inquiries from employees, customers and third-party partner companies. Perform onsite rental starts up, testing and repairs, as needed. Assist with generating reports, sourcing parts and participating in team meetings.
Project Management: Managing large-scale projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
Quality and Compliance: Establishing and enforcing technical standards, safety protocols (e.g., OSHA, NFPA), and quality assurance protocols to ensure regulatory compliance and system reliability.
Troubleshooting and Support: Acting as the final escalation point for critical technical challenges and coordinating emergency response to minimize downtime during power failures. Provide technical support to employees, third party companies and customers.
Innovation: Staying current with emerging technologies in power systems and recommending advancements to maintain a competitive edge and improve operational efficiency.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree preferred; Associate's degree 2 years relevant experience considered. Degree in Electronics, Military Electronics Training equivalent, Trade School Training equivalent with 3 years’ relevant experience in this field or 5 years’ relevant experience in this field will be considered. Extensive, progressive experience in electrical power design, power management, and facilities or data center operations.
Skills: Deep expertise in electrical power design, battery technologies, power distribution systems, and industry standards such as the NEC, AREMA, and NYC Building Code. Strong communication, negotiation, project management, and problem-solving abilities; the ability to remain calm under pressure is essential.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
