Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and safety-conscious Directional Drill Ground Hand to join our dynamic construction team. In this vital role, you will assist with the operation and maintenance of horizontal directional drilling equipment, support excavation activities, and ensure smooth coordination on busy construction sites. Your hands-on expertise will help drive project success while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment. This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop your skills in heavy equipment operation and construction processes, contributing directly to infrastructure development projects. MUST BE 21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER WITH A VAILD DRIVER'S LICENSE AND CLEAR BACKGROUND CHECK TO APPLY. Per our insurance regulations all drivers must be over the age of 21 with less than 6 points on their driving record. Other exclusions may apply.
Responsibilities
- Assist the HDD crew with all jobsite functions, including potholing, exposing / verifying existing underground utilities, and setting up drilling equipment.
- Open pits and prepare drill path entry and exit points.
- Prepare and stage pipe for pullback operations.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance on heavy equipment such as Caterpillar machines, graders, dump trailers,
- Safely operate various construction vehicles such as but not limited to loaders, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, and graders to facilitate site work
- Collaborate with team members to ensure construction site safety protocols are followed at all times
- Support the transportation of materials and equipment to and from jobs sites.
- Assist in maintaining accurate documentation of daily activities, equipment usage, and safety checks
- Work in coordination with the crew to maintain efficient workflow and timely project completion.
Skills
- Experience or basic knowledge in potholing, directional drilling, or underground utilities (preferred but not required).
- Valid driver's license with experience in maneuvering trailers.
- Familiarity with identifying or working around existing utilities is a plus.
- Hands-on experience with construction site activities such as grading and excavation.
- Knowledge of safety standards and procedures specific to heavy equipment operation and construction environments
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
- Willingness to learn new skills related to HDD and utility construction.
- Physically able to perform manual labor, lift equipment, and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to work as part of a team.
