Job Description

I. OVERVIEW

The Junior Capital Markets Trader will support the trading and risk management activities of the Capital Markets team. This role provides hands-on exposure to secondary marketing, mortgage-backed securities (MBS) trading, loan sales, and pipeline hedging. The ideal candidate will have 1–3 years of relevant experience, strong analytical skills, and a desire to grow into a senior trading role within the mortgage banking industry.

II. EXPECTATIONS

  • Assist in executing TBA mortgage-backed securities trades and whole loan sales under the direction of senior traders.
  • Support the daily hedge position management process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in all trade entries and reports.
  • Monitor market trends, interest rate movements, and investor pricing to identify and communicate trading opportunities.
  • Prepare daily position and P&L reports for management, highlighting key changes and drivers.
  • Collaborate with senior traders to optimize pipeline performance and maintain effective risk coverage.
  • Work with the operations and accounting teams to ensure accurate trade settlements and data integrity.
  • Maintain and update trading and pricing models, investor grids, and internal performance metrics.
  • Participate in process improvement projects to enhance trading and reporting efficiency.
  • Develop relationships with investors, brokers, and internal stakeholders to support smooth execution of trades.

III. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
  • 1–3 years of experience in mortgage banking, capital markets, trading, or financial analysis.
  • Basic understanding of fixed income products and secondary mortgage market concepts.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative abilities with proficiency in Excel; SQL or VBA knowledge is a plus.
  • Foundational knowledge of mortgage-backed securities and interest rate risk management.
  • High motivation to learn trading and hedging strategies.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
