Supports to Encourage Low-income Families (SELF) is a small non-profit serving low-income individuals in Butler County, Ohio since 1996. Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for Butler County residents by impacting the causes of poverty and empowering individuals to achieve, sustain and advocate self-sufficiency. We provide personal development programs as well as home improvements and utility assistance for individuals in need.

We are searching for a qualified and passionate Fiscal Director to join our leadership team.

The Fiscal Director reports directly to the Executive Director. This position is responsible for the fiscal administration of all agency programs; the management and control of all agency fiscal resources; and submission of timely, accurate financial reports. The position also assists with employee benefits and salaries and changes in labor laws pertaining to the organization.

The Fiscal Director completes general accounting and auditing for the organization including but not limited to budget planning, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reporting. This position prepares benefit packages for employees, pays all necessary taxes, and maintains confidentiality of sensitive information. Additionally, this position maintains the organization’s grants management system and completes all tracking and reporting of grant funds and follows all policies and procedures and performs all other duties and tasks as necessary or assigned by the Executive Director.

The successful candidate will:

Have knowledge of:

  • Accounting principles and practices for a non-profit.
  • Laws, rules, regulations, and policies affecting the financial operations of a nonprofit agency.
  • Fiscal and program auditing.
  • Payroll laws and administration.
  • Complex fund accounting.
  • Budget development.
  • Computerized financial management and payroll systems along with Word, Excel, internet, and Outlook.
  • Grants Management Systems (GMS) software (training provided).

Be able to:

  • Interact with customers/vendors in a positive manner.
  • Perform complex accounting and auditing tasks.
  • Monitor and update fiscal and operational records.
  • Prepare a variety of financial and audit reports.
  • Conduct risk-management functions.
  • Represent the organization with staff, board, funders, and the public.
  • Plan effectively and collaboratively for the long-term, while being flexible in the short-term to adapt to changing grant conditions.

Have the following skills, education, and experience:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent leadership and organization skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong proactive management style.
  • 2-3 years of experience in accounting with an emphasis in nonprofit accounting.
  • Professional experience in grants accounting preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
  • An appropriate combination of education, training, coursework, and experience may qualify a candidate for the position.
