What are the responsibilities and job description for the Community Relations Coordinator position at Supports to Encourage Low-income Families (SELF)?
The Community Relations Coordinator is the point person for agency communications to the public through media outlets and the lead grant writer for the agency. The position provides outreach in the form of public speaking, by attending meetings and communicating with client groups, donors and community groups as well as supporting fund development efforts. Assists with event planning as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide outreach to clients and potential clients about the HEAP program and other programs at SELF.
- Respond to questions from potential clients about the HEAP program and other programs at SELF.
- Explore and write grants and reports to support SELF’s existing programs and to move SELF into new programmatic areas.
- Update SELF’s website and post to SELF’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages on regular basis.
- Communicate to media about SELF’s programs, client successes and fund development efforts.
- Produce SELF’s e-newsletters, direct mail campaigns and annual reports.
- Update SELF’s program flyers.
- Assist with planning and execution of special events at SELF as needed, including its annual awards dinner and annual donor/volunteer appreciation event.
- Photograph SELF’s events and activities.
- Represent SELF at meetings, conferences and on coalitions or boards.
- Assist with organization and distribution of Thanksgiving meals and Adopt A Family program as needed.
- Record client complaints and appeals and work with management to come to resolution.
- All other duties assigned by the Executive Director.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Knowledge of: General office skills and strong computer skills with specific knowledge and experience with Windows and Microsoft products, including the Internet, Outlook, Word, Excel. Experience with content management systems and page design software is preferred.

Skills/Experience:
- At least three years of successful related work experience
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Strong presentation skills
- Proof of media placements through news releases and pitching
- Web design and basic HTML knowledge to update website via CMS
- Social media aptitude
- Strong personal organization and project management skills
- Experience in developing and maintaining marketing strategies
- Some fund development experience preferred, experience with donor database software a plus
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree preferred in public relations, journalism, marketing or other communications-related field.
Licensure or Certification Requirements:
Must have a valid driver’s license, be insurable, and have dependable transportation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
