Job Overview
We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behavior Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will serve as the clinical lead for teams supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in their homes, communities, and residential settings.

The Behavior Specialist is responsible for completing functional behavior assessments, developing behavior support and crisis intervention plans, and overseeing the effective implementation of those plans. This position requires the ability to work independently, adapt to varying schedules and locations, and support a diverse group of individuals.

You will collaborate closely with team members to develop behavior management strategies, assess ongoing treatment effectiveness, and provide clear, constructive feedback to promote progress and positive outcomes.

Duties

  • Complete direct and indirect assessments as part of developing a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA).
  • Utilize the outcomes of the FBA to develop Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) and Crisis Intervention Plans (CIPs) that comply with regulatory requirements and best-practice standards.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to the treatment team and applicable parties regarding plan implementation and behavioral progress.
  • Relate, interact, and communicate positively and professionally when supporting individuals.Support and assist individuals in enhancing skills that increase independence, promote community involvement, and improve overall quality of life.
  • Ensure the health and safety of individuals is maintained at all times.Document each direct and consultative encounter in a timely manner through electronic service notes, reflecting ISP outcomes and progress.
  • Motivate and assist individuals in achieving the outcomes designated in their Individual Support Plan (ISP).
  • Support individuals in developing skills to independently advocate for themselves and access needed services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in psychology, social work, special education, or Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).
  • Minimum of one year of experience completing Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs).
  • PA Behavior Specialist License and Board Certification as a Behavior Analyst (BCBA) preferred, but not required.
  • Required to provide on-call assistance outside of regular work hours.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Must have and maintain vehicle inspection and registration.
  • Must have and maintain Pennsylvania state minimum auto insurance.
  • Must provide transportation for participants using a personal vehicle.
  • Must provide acceptable criminal history checks.
  • Must complete a physical exam and TB test as required.
  • Must complete CPR/First Aid training every two years.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to physically assist individuals with behavioral or emotional challenges, including the use of non-violent crisis intervention techniques when needed. The role involves frequent movement—such as sitting, standing, walking, and traveling between locations—as well as sustained observation of individuals and their surroundings. Staff must be able to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and kneel, bend, or reach during support tasks. Adequate visual and auditory acuity is necessary to respond to verbal and non-verbal cues, and employees must remain alert and responsive, even in challenging or crisis situations. Work may occur in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings, sometimes under stressful or unpredictable conditions, and the ability to safely transport individuals using a personal vehicle is required.
