Director Parcel Transportation Solutions 

Lead the strategy, growth, commercialization, and operational management of DHL Supply Chain’s parcel transportation solution across North America. The role is accountable for building and managing a multi-carrier parcel network, negotiating and administering carrier agreements, designing customer parcel programs, ensuring freight payment and financial controls, and delivering profitable growth. This leader will develop a high-performing team, establish the reporting and analytics needed to manage service, cost, capacity, and profitability, and partner with customers and internal stakeholders to create scalable parcel solutions that support evolving eCommerce, returns, fulfillment, and distribution needs.

Job Description

Customer and Commercial 

• Define and commercialize DHL Supply Chain’s parcel transportation solution, including standard offerings, customer-specific program designs, pricing inputs, service models, implementation requirements, and ongoing governance.
• Partner with Business Development, Account Management, Solution Design, Operations, and customers to design parcel programs that meet service, cost, speed, visibility, returns, and customer experience requirements.
• Support pursuit activity and customer expansions by translating parcel market expertise into compelling, executable solutions and clear customer value propositions.
• Establish customer-facing performance reviews and business reviews covering service, cost, claims, accessorials, carrier mix, savings opportunities, and continuous improvement actions.

Carrier and Network Strategy

• Lead the parcel carrier strategy across national, regional, local, postal, gig, economy, expedited, and specialty parcel providers as appropriate for customer requirements.
• Own carrier sourcing, contract negotiation support, rate card administration, service-level expectations, capacity planning, peak readiness, issue escalation, and carrier relationship management.
• Monitor changes in the parcel market, carrier offerings, accessorial structures, delivery options, technology capabilities, and capacity conditions to keep DHL’s solution competitive and resilient.
• Ensure carrier programs are operationally feasible, financially sound, compliant with DHL policies, and aligned with customer commitments.

Financial

• Manage parcel solution profitability, including revenue, gross profit, cost-to-serve, carrier spend, billing accuracy, margin improvement initiatives, and annual operating plan commitments.
• Partner with Finance to ensure accurate carrier payment, customer billing, accruals, claims resolution, and financial reporting.
• Develop and execute initiatives to improve margin, reduce cost leakage, optimize carrier mix, and drive profitable growth across new and existing customers.

Operations Execution

• Create scalable operating processes for parcel onboarding, implementation, daily management, exception handling, claims, invoice dispute resolution, capacity management, peak planning, and issue escalation.
• Ensure service performance meets customer commitments and internal standards by leveraging standardized workflows, governance rhythms, and continuous improvement practices.
• Coordinate with fulfillment center operations, distribution, returns, IT, and carrier partners to ensure parcel solutions are executable from order creation through final-mile delivery and settlement.

Reporting and Analytics

• Define the parcel reporting and analytics roadmap needed to manage spend, service, carrier performance, lane/package characteristics, claims, billing, customer profitability, and improvement opportunities.
• Partner with IT, Data Analytics, Finance, and operational teams to build dashboards, scorecards, and standard reporting for internal leadership, customers, and carrier business reviews.
• Use data-driven insights to recommend carrier mix changes, service-level adjustments, savings initiatives, network improvements, and customer program enhancements.

People Leadership

• Build, lead, coach, and develop a team responsible for parcel carrier management, program execution, analytics, customer support, and continuous improvement.
• Set clear goals, accountabilities, performance expectations, development plans, and succession plans for direct reports.
• Create a collaborative, customer-focused culture that balances service, cost, quality, compliance, and profitable growth.

Required Education and Experience

• Seven to ten (7-10) years of logistics, transportation, parcel, small package, eCommerce, fulfillment, distribution, or related supply chain experience, required
• Five (5) years of parcel transportation experience, including carrier management, parcel program design, rate structures, service options, claims/accessorials, and operational execution, required
• Experience managing multi-carrier transportation programs, including national, regional, postal, local, expedited, and/or specialty parcel providers, required
• Experience negotiating or supporting carrier contracts, rate agreements, service level commitments, and commercial terms, required
• Experience managing P&L, freight spend, revenue, gross profit, cost improvement, billing, and payment controls, required
• Experience leading direct reports and cross-functional teams in a customer-facing environment, required
• Experience supporting new business pursuits, customer solution design, implementations, and executive-level business reviews, required
• Deep knowledge of the parcel transportation market, including carrier capabilities, rate structures, accessorials, delivery options, residential/eCommerce dynamics, returns, peak planning, and market trends, required
• Strategic leadership capability to build, grow, commercialize, and operate a scalable parcel solution, required
• Carrier sourcing, negotiation, contract administration, governance, scorecarding, and relationship management, required
• Financial acumen, including P&L management, pricing inputs, margin improvement, cost-to-serve analysis, billing, audits, accruals, and freight payment processes, required
• Customer-facing solution design, consultative selling support, executive communication, and business review facilitation, required
• Advanced analytical skills with ability to define parcel KPIs, reporting requirements, dashboards, scorecards, and continuous improvement insights, required
• Cross-functional leadership across Operations, Finance, IT, Procurement, Legal, Solution Design, Business Development, and carrier partners, required
• Strong program management, change management, prioritization, escalation, and execution discipline, required
