What are the responsibilities and job description for the Yard & Field Operations Technician position at Superior Waste Industries?
The Role
Superior Waste Industries is looking for a Yard & Field Operations Technician to join our growing operations team.
We are looking for someone who can flex wherever the operation needs them, learn multiple areas of the business, and isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.
Our yard supports many different operations, and your responsibilities will change throughout the day. You may be sorting materials, helping with equipment, changing a tire, cleaning sanitation assets, working on a special project, receiving materials, organizing inventory, or heading to a customer site to complete field work.
You will do a little bit of everything. But you won't be doing it alone.
You will be joining a dependable, cohesive operations team that leads by example.
We're looking to add someone who fits that same mentality.
Our team works together. You will almost always be working alongside someone, whether you're helping with a yard operation, working on equipment, completing a special project, or supporting another department.
We help each other, we communicate, and we step in when someone needs a hand.
We're looking for someone who:
- Can flex wherever operations needs them
- Is willing to learn different areas of the business
- Is mechanically inclined and good with their hands
- Isn't afraid to get down and dirty
- Is comfortable working outside in various weather conditions
- Takes pride in being dependable
- Works well with a team
- Is willing to jump in and help wherever needed
- Takes ownership of their work
- Has a "figure it out" mentality
- Wants to grow with the company
You don't need to know how to do everything when you start. We can teach you our processes and equipment.
What we're looking for is someone with the right attitude, work ethic, mechanical aptitude, and willingness to learn.
What You'll Do
Your responsibilities will vary based on what the operation needs. You may work in:

- Wood disposal and air-incinerator operations
- Concrete and metal sorting
- Smaller equipment operation
- Specialized projects
- Loading, unloading, staging, and organizing materials

- Yard organization and cleanup

- Using hand and power tools

- Preparing assets for deployment
- Supporting repairs and refurbishment
- Assisting with equipment and operational projects
- Helping wherever the operation needs additional support
Field Operations
- Traveling to customer locations and construction sites
- Supporting installations, equipment setup, service work, troubleshooting, deliveries, and other field responsibilities
- Working with equipment, hoses, fittings, tanks, totes, pumps, valves, sanitation equipment, and related systems

The right person is someone who can work hard, work smart, and work well with others.
You should:
- Be mechanically inclined
- Enjoy working with your hands
- Be comfortable getting dirty
- Be comfortable working outside in all weather
- Be physically capable of performing the job
- Be dependable and punctual

- Be comfortable working alongside others
- Be able to take direction while also using good judgment

- Have a positive, team-first attitude
Growth Opportunity
This position has a lot of room to grow.
Because you'll be exposed to many different areas of our operation, you'll have the opportunity to develop skills in equipment, maintenance, sanitation, field service, material processing, and general operations.
As you learn, demonstrate reliability, and take on more responsibility, your role can grow with you.
We want to develop people who show initiative and want to build a career with SWI.
This isn't a position where you're expected to do the same thing every day.
The more you learn, the more valuable you become to the team — and the more opportunities you can take on.
If you're the type of person who wants to work hard, learn new things, help the people around you, and become someone the team can rely on, we want to hear from you.
