HVAC Class 5 Service Technician

Seeking a HVAC Service Technician - Class V with a minimum of three (3) years of commercial/industrial HVAC experience for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Birmingham, AL.

The compensation ranges from $37.00 to $43.00 per hour.

In this role you will Service and repair heating, ventilating, air conditioning and related environmental control systems utilizing knowledge of heating, refrigeration, and pipefitting theory. Will work with compound refrigeration, large built up & reciprocating systems, centrifugal and rotary screw chillers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Troubleshoot, repair/replace and service HVAC equipment and controls ranging from 1-60 tons cooling capacity. (Class V must be able to troubleshoot and service centrifugal and rotary screw chillers).
• Replace or repair compressor and condenser units.
• Fabricates, assembles, and installs ductwork and chassis parts, using portable metalworking tools.
• Join tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings, or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant.
• Repair or replace motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating-ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
• Repair leaks, leak test & add Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure on all systems.
• Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring to repair installed units, using electrician's hand tools and test equipment.
• May repair and service air-conditioners, ranging from one or more tons cooling capacity.
• Professionally maintained company provided tools and vehicles.
• Work safely, drive safely and courteously, reports safety hazards, and make suggestions to improve safety.
• Maintain good attendance and productivity.
• Possess good time management, organizational and communication (oral and written) skills.
• Demonstrate commitment, dedication, cooperation, positive teamwork, flexibility, and adaptability while in the workplace.
  

• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• EPA Universal certification is REQUIRED.
• Pneumatic controls are a plus.
• Candidates must possess good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills to ensure effective teamwork and customer relations.
• Must be able to climb ladders, lift and carry 50 or more pounds, distinguish colors for electrical work, use hand tools and tolerate confined spaces.
• Work will involve heights and seasonal temperature extremes.Proper use of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) is required while performing tasks.
• Must be available for some overtime, on-call, and weekend work.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Valid Driver’s License and EPA Universal certification is required.
