CNC Machine Setup Technician

Job Summary

CNC Machine Shop in Fremont, CA is seeking a detail-oriented CNC Machine Setup Technician to join our production team. This position is responsible for setting up vertical CNC milling machines for production, selecting and installing cutting tools, establishing machining offsets, performing first-article inspections, and ensuring jobs are ready for safe and efficient operation.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, reliable, comfortable working with blueprints and work orders, and capable of troubleshooting setup and machining issues with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

-Set up CNC milling machines for production jobs.

-Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, tolerances, and work orders.

-Install and verify cutting tools, fixtures, vises, and work-holding devices.

-Set tool lengths, machining offsets, and machine parameters.

-Perform first-article inspections using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment.

-Make tool, wear, and offset adjustments as needed to maintain dimensional requirements.

-Load and verify CNC programs prior to production.

-Troubleshoot setup, tooling, work-holding, and machining issues.

-Coordinate closely with programmers, machinists, the quality department, and production management.

-Assist in reducing setup times and improving machine utilization.

-Maintain tooling and the work area in an organized manner according to 5S standards.

-Adhere to all safety and quality procedures.

Requirements

-Some CNC milling machine setup experience is required.

-Solid understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, speeds, feeds, and work-holding. 

-Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand tolerances.

-Experience using precision measuring equipment.

-Ability to work independently and resolve machining issues.

-Knowledge of G-code and M-code is preferred.

-Experience with 3-axis machines.
