Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated and dependable Steel Delivery Driver/Shop Assistant to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for delivering steel products safely and efficiently to various job sites and customers while providing exceptional customer service. You will also assist in shop operations, including material handling, loading and unloading, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace. This position offers an energetic environment where safety, punctuality, and teamwork are valued. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about driving, manual handling, and supporting warehouse functions to ensure smooth daily operations.
Duties
- Safely operate a truck and trailer within regulations of traffic laws to deliver steel products across designated routes.
- Load and unload materials using forklifts, pallet jacks, or manual handling techniques while adhering to safe lifting practices and weight handling guidelines.
- Assist in shop activities such as organizing inventory, preparing orders, and maintaining cleanliness of the work area.
- Provide excellent customer service by communicating effectively with clients during deliveries and addressing any questions or concerns professionally.
- Ensure accurate documentation of deliveries, including delivery logs, route sheets, and load/unload records using mobile devices or other digital tools.
- Support warehouse operations by moving materials within the facility, operating material handling equipment safely, and adhering to warehouse safety protocols.
- Follow all company policies related to driving hours, vehicle maintenance checks, and load securement.
Skills
- Proven warehouse experience with familiarity in material handling equipment operation such as forklifts and pallet jacks.
- Valid driver’s license with experience driving trucks with trailers.
- Strong delivery driver experience with a focus on route driving, adhering to traffic regulations, and safe driving practices.
- Ability to lift heavy loads repeatedly while following safe lifting practices; physical stamina for moving materials throughout the day.
- Excellent customer service skills with clear communication abilities during deliveries and shop assistance tasks.
- Knowledge of warehouse operations including inventory management, manual handling techniques, and safety procedures.
- Comfortable using mobile devices for route navigation, delivery documentation, and communication purposes.
