Building Custodian/Light Maintenance Job Description

Job Summary:

Performs assigned duties under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager. Maintains and cleans offices, break room, restrooms, plant, and light plant maintenance.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Cleans and maintains the inside of SEI building, including offices, break room, rest rooms, tool room. Empties garbage cans, dust cabinets, and desks etc. Mops and waxes floors.
• Responsible for cleaning supplies and equipment being stocked.
• Keep cleaning schedules that are set up by the Maintenance Manager in the organization, i.e., cleaning of windows, mopping floors, dusting, and sweeping.
• Empty trash and recycle bins on a regular basis.
• Put up signs to signal wet floors during cleaning or to show any other form of safety situation in the surroundings.
• Re-stock materials like toilet paper and hand towels in the washrooms.
• Perform extra cleaning duties as requested or instructed by production supervisors.
• Make sure assigned cleaning tasks are executed in a timely and orderly manner.
• Work as part of a team to execute cleaning duties and to make sure that standards (of neatness/cleanliness) are maintained. Communicate information with following shifts and supervisor to reduce unnecessary and duplicated work.
• Make reports to supervisor concerning repairs that must be made (which have been noticed while carrying out daily duties).
• When in contact with hazardous materials, inform the Safety Director, Plant Engineer, Plant Manager, or Assistant Plant Manager to handle the situation.
• Prescribe appropriate cleaning materials and products needed for disinfecting and sanitizing the entire building according to the SEI’s standards.
• Always make proper cleaning logs and records that show areas of the building that have been completed. May need to design a cleaning schedule.

· May be required to do some work outside the building, like mowing grasses, trimming trees and/or flowers, making sure that sidewalks are always clean, and picking up dry leaves (by making use of a rake) that litter the environment.

• Duties commonly carried out include cleaning window glasses and/or panes, emptying trash bins, waxing floors, cleaning bathrooms/rest rooms, and carrying out minor maintenance and repairs.
• Performs light maintenance when coordinated with the Maintenance Supervisor. Prior coordination with the Maintenance Supervisor/Management is required before diverting Buildings Custodian from work being performed.

Education and Experience:

• Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
• Experience: One year of employment with SEI preferred.
• Must possess effective communication skills.
• Must have good interpersonal skills to be able to get along effortlessly with fellow custodians, employees, and visitors of SEI.
• Must be initiative-taking when it comes to carrying out his/her duties.
• Must be honest and truthful as he/she will have access to people’s belongings and personal information. Must sign confidentiality agreement.
