AVAILABLE BEFORE 4/30/2026

ESSENTIAL PURPOSE OF THIS POSITION:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager is a technical expert and strategic leader responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously evolving a comprehensive EHS management system tailored to a high-risk, highly regulated industrial manufacturing environment. This role demands deep technical expertise in environmental compliance, occupational safety engineering, industrial hygiene, and risk management, along with a firm grasp of sustainability practices and global product stewardship requirements. The ideal candidate must be capable of navigating complex regulatory frameworks, leading audits and inspections from regulatory agencies, and deploying site-wide cultural transformation initiatives in safety, compliance, and environmental sustainability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Environmental Management:
    • Lead complex environmental compliance initiatives involving federal, state, and local regulations.
    • Oversee site-specific environmental programs related to stormwater runoff, hazardous materials storage, and waste handling, ensuring full compliance with TCEQ and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) requirements.
    • Develop and maintain procedures to ensure accurate and timely TRI submissions, including detailed chemical usage tracking, discharge quantification (e.g., to sewer, water, or land), and internal validation.
    • Drive environmental sustainability efforts through waste reduction, recycling initiatives, water use optimization, and other site-level environmental performance programs aligned with corporate Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals.
    • Serve as the primary liaison for environmental agencies during audits and inspections, ensuring zero non-conformances and sustained regulatory compliance.

  • Health and Safety Leadership:
    • Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and training programs to create a safe working environment. Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards. Investigate accidents, near misses, and other safety incidents, and develop strategies to prevent recurrence. Provide leadership and collaborate with other departments to promote a culture of safety.
    • Design and implement a risk-based EHS management system (EHSMS) compliant with ANSI Z10, ISO 45001, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP) best practices.
    • Conduct advanced hazard identification and risk assessments (e.g., Job Hazard Analysis (JHA), Hazard and Operability Study (HAZOP), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)) and lead cross-functional mitigation strategies.
    • Direct investigations of incidents involving chemical exposure, machine guarding failures, confined space entries, lockout/tagout issues, etc., and lead multi-disciplinary root cause mapping teams.
    • Lead Employee Engagement-Based Safety (EEBS) initiatives and safety culture transformation programs to improve frontline engagement.
    • Lead site-wide rollouts of annual compliance training, safety orientation, and certification programs.

  • Regulatory Compliance:
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and proactively assess implications across local, state, federal, and international (as applicable) EHS laws.
    • Lead multi-agency regulatory interactions, including OSHA, EPA, TCEQ, Department of Transportation (DOT), and other relevant bodies.
    • Ensure full site and product compliance with global chemical and material regulations.
    • Lead data collection and submission for customer-driven product compliance requests, environmental due diligence inquiries, and third-party sustainability verification programs.
    • Maintain all EHS-related documentation, including complex reporting requirements (e.g., TRI, Tier II, Form R, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, sustainability KPIs).

  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Define and monitor environmental, health and safety Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify systemic weaknesses and opportunities for improvement.
    • Utilize data analytics tools to evaluate trends, predict risks, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Champion Lean/Six Sigma methodologies in EHS process improvement projects (e.g., reduction of incident cycle time, root cause recurrence elimination).
    • Support corporate ESG and sustainability reporting through detailed performance tracking and lifecycle impact assessments.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific/technical field required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in EHS management within a complex manufacturing or industrial environment; experience in heavy industry or chemical processing strongly preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of substance restriction and product compliance programs (e.g., REACH, RoHS, PFAS, TSCA).
  • Demonstrated experience managing EHS functions in geographically isolated or labor-constrained environments.
  • Experience working with multicultural workforces, and sensitivity to global EHS standards and workforce dynamics is highly desirable.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS:

  • OSHA 30-hour and 10-hour certifications required.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or equivalent strongly preferred; certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or ISO 45001/14001 Lead Auditor certification highly desirable.
  • First Responder or HAZWOPER certification preferred.
