We are seeking a skilled and motivated Fleet/Heavy Equipment Service Technician to join our growing team. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude and experience with diesel engines, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems. As a technician you will work independently and as part of a team to minimize equipment downtime, maintain accurate service records, and ensure all repairs meet company standards and applicable safety regulations. The ideal candidate is dependable, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality workmanship while supporting the organization’s operational goals.
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled inspections on fleet vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic system issues using diagnostic equipment and service manuals.
- Repair and replace engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, and other major components.
- Troubleshoot and repair diesel engines, heavy construction equipment, and commercial vehicles.
- Conduct safety inspections to ensure equipment complies with company and regulatory standards.
- Complete work orders accurately, documenting repairs, parts used, and labor hours.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Operate service trucks and mobile repair equipment as needed for field service calls.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns to minimize downtime and support operational needs.
- Inspect equipment before and after repairs to verify proper operation.
- Order or recommend replacement parts and maintain appropriate inventory levels.
- Utilize computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track maintenance activities.
- Follow all OSHA, DOT, and company safety policies and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and other technicians regarding equipment status and repair recommendations.
- Assist with training and mentoring junior technicians when needed.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience maintaining and repairing diesel-powered fleet vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to read wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, and technical manuals.
- Experience using diagnostic software and electronic troubleshooting tools.
- Valid driver's license (CDL A preferred) and the ability to obtain a valid driver’s medical examination certificate.
- Ability work in varying weather conditions.
- Welding and fabrication experience is preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Valid PA State Inspection License.
