ABOUT THE IMPERIAL COURT
The Superior Court of California, County of Imperial is a unified Superior Court, served by ten judges, one commissioner, and one referee. The Presiding Judge is the Honorable Eran M. Bermudez and the Court Executive Officer is Maria Rhinehart.   The Court employs approximately 105 staff including full-time, part-time and contract. There are three current courthouses located: 2 in El Centro and 1 in Winterhaven. The Court utilizes a single case management system for all case types and submits data electronically to DMV, DOJ and JBSIS. GENERAL PURPOSE

This is a professional position responsible for the oversight and day-to-day operation of programs providing legal services to litigants not represented by counsel. The position is responsible for meeting all grant related requirements of the Family Law Facilitator’s Office and the Self-Help Center.
 
The Family Law Facilitator provides the services mandated by Family Code §§ 10000-10012, which includes the development, planning, implementation, and administration of a family law program.  That program provides legal services to litigants not represented by counsel, facilitates and expedites family law proceedings related to child support, spousal support, paternity establishment and disestablishment, and health care insurance and expenses.
 
As the Staff Attorney for the Court’s Self-Help Center, this position facilitates and expedites proceedings related to dissolution, legal separation, nullity, parentage, child custody and visitation, step-parent adoption, domestic violence restraining orders, probate guardianships, limited civil actions, name changes, and small claims. The Attorney recommends, develops, implements, and coordinates all aspects of the Court’s public access and outreach efforts.

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This position has administrative and supervisory responsibilities for the planning, supervision and operation of all self-help services, including direct supervision of clerical staff, interns, and volunteers. This position requires active membership of the State Bar of California.

Juris Doctorate Degree from an accredited law school and licensed to practice law in this state with a minimum two (2) years of mediation and/or litigation experience in the field of family law and at least one (1) year in a lead or supervisor capacity which may include managing a private practice.

Licenses, Certificates, or Special Requirements:
  • Active membership in the California State Bar Association. The incumbent is prohibited from practicing law outside of his/her duties while employed with the Court.
  • A valid California Class C driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the Court's vehicle insurance policy required.
  • Bilingual Spanish Preferred.

Selection Procedure:
Step I: Applications will be reviewed to identify candidates who meet the minimum qualifications and have submitted required documents; eligible candidates will be referred to step II in the selection process.
Step II: Those candidates that are successful in the previous step may be invited to participate in an oral interview. 
Additional steps for the selection process will include a drug test, background and reference checks.
