Travel: Up to 50% across Western U.S.

Industry: Heat Treatment / Industrial Services

Department: Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

The Safety Manager is responsible for the oversight and maintenance of the EHS program within their assigned region. This role is a cultural catalyst, working to influence the direction of Safety and Quality Programs while ensuring field operations strictly adhere to training, policies, and regulatory protocols. The Safety Manager ensures all systems are compliant with legislative, customer, and Superheat-specific requirements.

Core Duties And Responsibilities

  • Compliance Management: Ensure full adherence to internal company safety program and region-specific OH&S Federal and State regulations.
  • Site Inspections & Audits: Conduct regular inspections of Superheat shops and client jobsites to confirm compliance; perform internal audits and address any outstanding findings.
  • Training & Orientation: Manage and facilitate health and safety orientation and training programs for all regional personnel.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead investigations into all safety incidents, identify root causes, and submit comprehensive reports.
  • Data Analysis: Continuously monitor regional safety trends and statistics; analyze results to suggest and implement data-driven improvement programs.
  • Stakeholder Liaison: Work with the Contracts Department on bid packages and act as a point of contact for external agencies like the Department of Labor and Worker’s Compensation.
  • Policy Maintenance: Review and update safety manuals and policies annually to reflect new legislation or operational changes.

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Regulatory Expertise: Strong working knowledge of Federal and State safety and health laws.
  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for data tracking and presentation.
  • Communication: Ability to articulate complex safety objectives and the corporate safety message to diverse audiences.
  • Soft Skills: High level of professional judgement, the ability to manage confidential information, and proficiency in conflict resolution.
  • Decision Making: Ability to make critical decisions under pressure and stay alert in safety-sensitive environments.

Experience And Education Requirements

  • At least 5 years in construction, nuclear, power plant, or similar industrial environments.
  • Proven experience in a safety-related role involving direct field supervision.
  • Post-secondary education or certification in a related field.
  • A recognized Safety Professional Certification (e.g., CSP, CHST, or CRSP) is highly preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License and the ability to acquire site access badging.

Physical and Environmental Demands

  • Ability to climb stairs/ladders, work at various heights, and enter confined spaces periodically.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in a construction environment and wearing full PPE/fall protection.
  • Extensive travel required (approximately 50%), including long commutes and sitting for extended periods.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours based on client requirements.
