Job Purpose
Oversees layout engineers, and other engineering support groups. Responsible for completing and occasionally overseeing engineering related activity from estimating through production support.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Include the Following:
Generate manufacturing cost estimates from prospective customer drawings, bills of material, models and other documents.
Occasional communication with customers to understand customer expectation, gather technical information, and resolve problems.Disseminates this information to the appropriate departments within the Super Steel organization.
Complete and oversee Item Master (IM) and Route & Bill of Material (R&B) entry and maintenance to EMS. Create sub-component drawing files using SolidWorks for overall order using customer drawings or models.
Updates IM and/or R&B as a result of Engineering Change Request (ECR) received from customer. Determines effectivity dates as necessary. Handles confidential pricing information.
Lead manufacturing design reviews and Design for Manufacturing reviews with cross functional teams to identify and document critical features, tooling requirements, build sequence and potential cost reductions.
Oversees and/or participates in the creation of quality checklists which cover the critical features identified during the design review.
Oversees and/or participates in the creation of detailed work instructions that step through the build sequence of the welded and/or assembled product including the usage of tools and fixtures.
Manufacturing cell design to achieve optimal manufacturing processing to include identification of manufacturing equipment needs, part presentation, fixture and equipment layout, trucking access etc.
Oversee, identify, and participate in the design of tools and fixtures required to achieve the dimensions and tolerances of critical to quality features specified while considering tooling costs vs project value.
Trains new employees and provides guidance to current employees.
Oversees customer accounts including service, shop floor support and changes. Trouble-shoots unusual situations that are escalated from shop floor.
Serve as supplier technical liaison between purchasing and the supply base. Communicate critical to quality requirements and assist in resolving technical problems.
Serve as shop floor liaison between engineering and the plant. Handles internal shop order maintenance and change control.
Maintains Sales/Layout/Customer Order Processing interface for engineering.
Participate in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement activities.
Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent experience or 3 – 5 years of related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Effective oral and written communications and presentation skills are essential, as are interpersonal skills. Strong problem solving skills are required. Must have ability to read blueprints and drawings and possess strong math skills. The ability to work effectively in a team environment is required. PC skills must include familiarity with MS Office software, such as Excel and Word. Understanding of ERP and CAD system (Solid Works) is necessary. The ability to work with multiple aggressive deadlines is required. Organizational and analytical skills are required. The ability to work effectively with diverse populations is required.
