Job Summary:
Supermicro is seeking a Service Technician (ST) that will be responsible for field work in local area. The ST will work exclusively at customer site to resolve and repair server systems. The ST are a critical part of post-sales support and need to be able to demonstrate exceptional technical aptitude in working with server products in addition to excellent interpersonal skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Includes the following essential duties and responsibilities (other duties may also be assigned):
  • Primarily work in a Datacenter environment at customer site
  • Provide on-premise field repair at customer facility
  • Ability to work flexible hours and/or flexible shifts including weekends and holidays if needed
  • Determines requirements and/or root cause of technical issues by working with customers in person
  • Answers inquiries by clarifying desired information; researching, locating, and providing information
  • Hands-on work on servers and computers/networking equipment
  • Resolves problems by clarifying issues; researching and exploring answers and alternative solutions; implementing solutions; escalating unresolved problems
  • Fulfills requests by clarifying desired information; completing transactions; forwarding requests
  • Ensure escalation situations are managed and corrected quickly and professionally
  • Drive customer satisfaction through service excellence
  • Work with other engineers, account managers and developers
  • Provide and contribute information such as fault triage and training materials
  • Attend and complete all required training and certification exams
  • Learn to be proficient in service and repair of all systems (current, new, and updates)

Hardware Installation & Maintenance
  • Rack and stack servers, switches, and related hardware.
  • Install and replace components (e.g., hard drives, memory, CPUs, RAID cards, power supplies).
  • Perform hardware upgrades or retrofits.
  • Handle cable management and labeling (fiber, Ethernet, power).
  • Use vendor tools for diagnostics and component firmware updates
  • Maintain accurate records in CMDB (Configuration Management Database) or asset tracking system.
  • Document serial numbers, part replacements, and maintenance logs.
  • Update work tickets and service logs (e.g., in ServiceNow or JIRA).

Diagnostics & Troubleshooting
  • Identify and resolve hardware issues (e.g., failed disks, POST errors, overheating).
  • Run hardware diagnostics using tools from vendors like Supermicro (IPMI), Dell (iDRAC), HP (iLO), etc.
  • Escalate non-resolvable issues to senior engineers or vendor support (with documentation).
  • Work with remote support teams for step-by-step guided fixes.
  • RMA processing and recovery
  • Parts Logistics
Qualifications:
  • Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
  • 2 years of hands on experience with servers (Supermicro, EMC, DELL, HP) is a plus
  • Experience in communicating with internal and external customers to explain total solutions
  • Touch-type 40 WPM.
  • Relevant experience, including military experience or CLEP may be counted towards degree
  • Familiarity with Linux preferred
  • This position requires flexibility in working hours, including weekends and holidays if needed, as well as travel to customer sites and facilities (up to 25%)
  • Must have authorization to work in the US without sponsorship
  • Be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50lbs
Salary Range
$20.00 - $34.00/hr
The salary offered will depend on several factors, including your location, level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience, and comparison to other employees already in this role. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation, such as participation in bonus and equity award programs.
