The Engineering Department at Westchester Community College has a tenure-track opening for an Instructor of Engineering in Mechanical Technology. The department is seeking a professional with a combination of both academic and industrial experience. The candidate should be comfortable in both the classroom and laboratory settings. Courses offered in Mechanical Technology in our department include: CAD (AutoCAD & Inventor), Manufacturing (both conventional and CNC), Manufacturing Processes, Thermodynamics, Mechanisms, Fluids, Statics, Dynamics, with an emphasis on Automation, controls and mechatronics.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Teach 15 hours a week.
  • Hold a minimum of 5 office hours per week.
  • Assist in the development and upgrade of curricula.
  • Laboratory facility development and maintenance.
  • Student advisement.
  • Serve on department and college-wide committees.
  • Participate in professional development.
  • Active involvement in local professional organizations.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of a Master's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline and a minimum of one year teaching or trainer experience are required. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach courses at all levels. They must be able to work in a standard classroom as well as in the department's CAD, 3D, Machine, and Electrical Labs. Familiarity with the integration of technology into the curriculum is essential.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. A candidate with 2-3 years of industrial experience is preferred. Familiarity with industrial training needs is also preferred.


POSITION EFFECTIVE: Fall 2026


SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $75,170. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $88,234. Further salary increases may be achieved through promotion to higher academic ranks. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit and/or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
