Job Summary:

The Technical Assistant – Seelig Theater provides technical assistance for campus theater productions, meetings, conferences, student engagement activities, lectures, classes, and rental events by external groups, such as performances, government meetings, and movie screenings. This position also assists in the coordination of the upkeep and maintenance of the Seelig Theater.

This position reports to the Vice President for Advancement and Communications.

Evening and weekend hours are required, up to 28 hours per week.

Required Qualifications:

· Associate’s degree in a related field, OR at least three (3) years of experience in theater equipment operation and facility maintenance

· Demonstrated experience operating theater lighting and sound systems (e.g., ETC Ion, Mackie soundboard, ETC dimmers, QVC amplifiers), as well as live-stream satellite equipment and multimedia hardware/software

· Ability to troubleshoot technical hardware and software issues

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and guests

Preferred Qualifications:

· Soldering and drafting experience

· ETCP Electrician and/or Proscenium Rigging certification

· Experience evaluating and recommending equipment/software and working with vendors

Skills and Abilities:

· Ability to operate and troubleshoot professional theater equipment, including lighting, sound, and multimedia systems

· Strong organizational skills to maintain schedules, documentation, and equipment inventory

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse campus and external stakeholders

· Capacity to lift/carry up to 50 lbs, and to perform physically demanding tasks such as bending, kneeling, and working at heights

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Coordinate with internal and external users to support events in the Seelig Theater, including classes, rehearsals, performances, and special programs

· Maintain the theater calendar and manage event bookings

· Operate theatrical equipment and provide technical assistance during rehearsals and events

· Troubleshoot technical issues and maintain accurate technical documentation, including lighting plots, circuit sheets, sound patch sheets, and inventory logs

· Oversee proper use of theater equipment by all users

· Collaborate with staff and vendors to support satellite events (e.g., Metropolitan Opera: Live in HD)

· Assist with the upkeep and maintenance of the theater, including lighting, sound, safety apparatus, and pianos

· Conduct safety checks and coordinate repairs or preventative maintenance with internal staff or external vendors

· Perform other related duties as assigned

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Work is performed in office, theater, and stage environments. Exposure to noise, dust, and electrical energy is expected. Work involves operating equipment and machinery, performing technical tasks at heights using scaffolding and ladders, and lifting up to 50 lbs. The role requires bending, stooping, crawling, and prolonged periods of standing, sitting, or walking.
