The EOP Counselor is responsible for providing services and guidance throughout the onboarding, enrollment, and retention phases for all current and prospective SUNY Polytechnic Institute EOP students. This is accomplished in collaboration with the student success & advising office among other departments throughout the college, through a case management model that requires outreach, relationship building, and effective communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prioritizes student support and engagement to ensure student success in navigating the processes required to be enrolled at the college and to understand how to utilize the support systems
  • Interpret and respond to EOP current student inquiries in-person, via the telephone or virtual appointments, and electronically regarding registration, financial aid, enrollment status, tutoring and other supplemental services provided by the college, in addition to the policies and procedures in place at the college.
  • Gathers information from current EOP students to best understand and evaluate individual circumstances; interprets relevant policies, procedures and guidelines to determine the best course of action
  • Refers students to the appropriate department for additional assistance as necessary
  • Provides comprehensive customer service in a challenging and fast-paced environment
  • Occasional meetings at different locations in the community may be required; travel to conferences and/or recruiting events may be required in a typical office environment.

Salary Range: $48,000 - $50,000


Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Two or more years' experience working with high school or college students
  • Possess and maintain a NYS Driver's License

??Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in a related field (e.g. Higher Education, Teaching, Counseling, STEM)
  • Demonstrated knowledge, sensitivity, and ability to work with students from diverse backgrounds, including historically academically and economically disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Experience working with students and families whose first language is not English
  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience using databases and other technology, particularly Microsoft Office software
  • Teaching or presenting experience
  • EOP/HEOP alumni
