Job Title: Postdoctoral Associate
Office/Location: SUNY Polytechnic Institute
The Center for Safe and Secure AI Robotics is looking to hire a post-doctoral associate to carry out research in cutting-edge methods for the computational analysis of classical, multi-physics, engineered systems. The appointment is for one year, renewable for a second year given the availability of funds. The focus is on integrating state-of-the-art structure-preserving discretization algorithms (a refinement of finite-element analysis compatible with exact geometric, topological, and physical constraints) with artificial neural networks for achieving improved performance in tasks of systems analysis like parameter estimation, solving inverse problems, and uncertainty quantification. The successful candidate will join a multi-institution research team of faculty at SUNY Polytechnic Institute and the University of South Florida, consisting of mathematicians, physicists, computer scientists, and engineers investigating applications of deep learning to the efficient simulation of natural and engineered systems. The position is based in Utica, NY. The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree in applied mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a closely related field. Coding experience for the computational modeling of physical and/or engineered systems, preferably with finite-element methods,
is a must. Strong programming skills, e.g. Python and/or a major language in the C family, are required. Familiarity and/or strong interest in mastering deep learning is essential.
The position is based in Utica, NY.
Job Responsibilities
Work on research projects assigned by the PI and meet with the PI regularly and as needed.
This position is contingent on the satisfactory completion of a background check; this position may require annual checks.
Salary : $60,000 - $65,000

Job Responsibilities

- The duties include 1) Actively seeking, reading, and discussing the research literature relevant to the project or projects weekly; 2) identify and/or develop hypotheses and methods for advancing the research effort; 3) design and carry out computer experiments; 4) attend the meetings of the PIs research group and present status reports for the group, 5) write STEM papers for peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings.
- Research projects initiated by the postdoc and approved by the PI. The successful applicant is welcome and encouraged to propose to the PI a project of their own for part-time
