Supervising Janitor (Temporary)(NY Helps)

Duties Description

This position is responsible for planning, scheduling, and supervising custodial staff assignments and cleaning services to ensure work is completed according to established standards and timelines, with the ability to reassign personnel as needed to support efficiency and respond to emergencies, maintenance, or special projects. This position performs the full range of supervisory duties, including interviewing and selecting staff; establishing training standards for new employees; evaluating performance; resolving personnel issues; providing coaching, counseling, or disciplinary action as appropriate; approving timecards and leave requests; and recommending employee retention or termination. This position communicates custodial policies, procedures, and directives; evaluates cleaning methods, equipment, and performance standards; oversees inventory control and the proper requisitioning and distribution of supplies and equipment; and supervises the setup of facilities for meetings, classes, graduations, and special events. Using appropriate PPE and selecting and safely using the appropriate tools and equipment needed to complete the assigned tasks as well as attending job related training will be required. Minimum Qualifications

-Must be eligible for permanent appointment to this title pursuant to civil service law.
-A demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with a variety of individuals.

Promotion:
One year of experience as a Janitor, Housekeeper, Supervising Housekeeper, Supervising Building Services Aide or Building Services Assistant 2

Minimum Qualifications for applicants not currently civil service eligible for the title:
Two years of satisfactory full-time experience in the custodial care or cleaning of buildings, offices, or institutional residences of which one year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level.

The work schedule is expected to be Monday – Friday, 5:00 p.m. to 1:30 a.m.
