The Mail Clerk at SUNY Orange, receives, sorts and distributes all incoming mail. Arranges for the delivery of heavy mail to and from various offices and buildings. Applies appropriate postage and mails outgoing items; operates a metered mailing machine. May transport mail to and from post office, including loading and unloading of mail from vehicle. Processes all registered and certified mailings; maintains record of postage used. Maintains up-to-date mail distribution lists and mail boxes. Deliver parcels received in stockroom; helps maintain and rotate stock in stockroom. Operates various office machines such as photocopiers, telephone, calculators, etc. Performs miscellaneous errands. May make copies as requested. May receive commercial deliveries.
The work is primarily of a routine nature and involves responsibility for the efficient operation of a mailroom. This position requires physical endurance and willingness to perform heavy work. Detailed instructions are given for new or difficult assignments. Incumbents must exercise independent judgement in applying fixed procedures to specific cases. Work is performed under general supervision. Does related work as required.
Job Requirements:
Requirement: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
Experience Preferred: Working knowledge of postal terminology procedures and equipment; working knowledge of postal rates and regulations; ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions; ability to get along well with others; ability to write legibly; clerical aptitude; neatness; accuracy; tact and courtesy; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:00PM
This is a full-time 12 month Civil Service competitive provisional appointment. Under a provisional appointment, you must apply for the examination during the filling period once the exam is announced, and as well as take the exam.
