Senior Staff Assistant (Admissions)
SUNY Broome Community College is seeking applicants for a full-time Senior Staff Assistant in the Admissions Office. This in-person position reports to the Director of Admissions, working with a dedicated team in a friendly, energetic community college setting.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work effectively with a diverse public and student population; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; maintain a recruitment territory, and have knowledge of local, state and federal guidelines and programs that can affect admissions and enrollment of students; generate activity reports from the College database and other computer resources in response to internal and external requests for information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assists the Director in recruitment efforts, on-campus visits, Open House, College Nights, and related activities.
- In conjunction with the Director, coordinates admissions events on and off campus including scheduling, registration, organizing, and assessment.
- Coordinate and schedule all high school campus visits: including presentations, tour of campus and housing, and meal options.
- Maintains an off-campus recruitment territory, including a close relationship with high schools during visits, Instant Admit Events, College Express Days, Financial Aid Days, College Days, etc.
- Works with the Director of Admissions, enrollment processing offices, and outside partners to strengthen enrollment and encourage community visibility.
- Collects data and prepares required reports for submission to the Director for review.
- In conjunction with the Director, works closely with other offices including Advising, Financial Aid, Student Accounts, Marketing, and others to ensure complete services to newly admitted students.
- Re-develop and maintain the high school guidance counselor newsletter to constantly update the local group on opportunities and interpret information regarding college curricula and course entrance requirements.
- Assists the Director with admissions policy and review, and process oversight and coordination for space-controlled programs.
- Primary Evaluator of Admissions criteria in competitive Health Science programs.
- Primary Evaluator of Admissions criteria in Educational Opportunity Program (EOP).
- CORRESPONDENCE WITH PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES ON ALL AREAS OF INTEREST IN THEIR COLLEGE SEARCH VIA EMAIL, PHONE CALLS, AND ONE ON ONE MEETINGS.
- CONSULTS WITH DEPARTMENT CHAIRPERSONS AND DEANS REGARDING PROGRAM PREREQUISITES AND INDIVIDUAL APPLICANT CONCERNS AND PROBLEMS THAT RELATE TO THE COMPETITIVE REVIEW PROCESS.
- COORDINATE THE ADMISSIONS AMBASSADOR PROGRAM INCLUDING HIRING, TRAINING, AND SUPERVISION OF STUDENT WORKERS AND ALL ASSIGNED TASKS.
- ASSISTS THE DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS IN HIRING AND TRAINING OF PART-TIME AND FULL-TIME STAFF.
- ASSISTS THE DIRECTOR OF ADMISSIONS IN COORDINATION OF RECRUITMENT PLANS AND TERRITORIES FOR THE RECRUITMENT STAFF IN ADMISSIONS.
- IN THE ABSENCE OF THE DIRECTOR, PROVIDE LEADERSHIP AND DAILY MANAGEMENT TO THE STAFF IN ADMISSIONS.
Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required. Additional training and education in the applicable administrative field is desirable.
- One (1) year of supervisory experience is required.
- Availability and willingness to travel to high schools, college fairs, and county events during high recruitment periods necessary.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Experience with SLATE and Banner is strongly preferred.
- Two (2) to three (3) years of experience working in an educational institution or in a related administrative function is desired.
- Human Services experience or additional experience with any of the functional responsibilities of the position is preferred.
