Broad Function
The Continuing Education & Workforce Innovation Department is seeking a knowledgeable and student-focused Noncredit Information Technology Support Instructor (Hardware Focus) to deliver high-quality workforce training in PC hardware installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
This position supports short-term, career-focused programs designed to prepare students for entry-level employment in IT support, help desk services, computer repair, and technical support roles. The course aligns with foundational A hardware competencies and emphasizes hands-on application of hardware diagnostics and operating system installation.
The ideal candidate will bring strong industry experience in computer hardware support, a commitment to adult learners, and the ability to translate technical concepts into applied lab instruction aligned with current industry standards.
This is a part-time, non-benefited instructional position reporting to the Director of Continuing Education & Workforce Innovation or designee.
Major Responsibilities
- Deliver in-person noncredit Information Technology Support courses with a focus on PC hardware fundamentals.

Teach core competencies in computer hardware and technical support, including:
- Overview and evolution of personal computing
- Numbering systems (decimal, binary, hexadecimal) and basic data representation
- PC hardware components and system architecture
- Form factors and power supplies
- Processors and chipsets
- Motherboards
- Memory installation and upgrades
- Hard drives and storage technologies
- Input/output (I/O) devices and peripheral installation
- Multimedia devices and mass storage
- Printer installation and support
- Operating system installation and configuration
- PCs in networked environments
- Professional standards for PC technicians
- Troubleshooting methodologies and diagnostic tools
- Provide hands-on instruction in lab settings, including system assembly, component replacement, operating system installation, and hardware troubleshooting.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and best practices when servicing computer equipment.
- Develop and update lesson plans, lab exercises, and instructional materials aligned with workforce needs and entry-level IT support competencies.
- Assess student performance through practical labs, troubleshooting demonstrations, quizzes, and written assessments.
- Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and course documentation in accordance with Continuing Education policies.
- Guide students in preparation for entry-level IT roles and industry-recognized certifications such as CompTIA A (Hardware).
- Collaborate with Continuing Education staff to ensure alignment between noncredit IT offerings and credit-bearing CIS pathways when appropriate.
- Maintain lab equipment, hardware inventory, and software images in coordination with program staff.
Required Skills
- Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent industry experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in IT support, computer repair, help desk, or related technical field.
- Demonstrated expertise in PC hardware installation, troubleshooting, and operating system support.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to workforce development and adult learner success.
Educational Requirements
- CompTIA A certification (or comparable industry certification).
- Prior teaching or technical training experience (college, technical school, apprenticeship, or corporate training).
- Experience supporting Windows operating systems in professional environments.
- Experience working in workforce development or adult education settings.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Work Schedule
Courses are typically offered evenings and/or weekends to accommodate working adults. Schedule will vary based on enrollment and program needs. The course may be delivered in multi-week evening sessions or intensive bootcamp format depending on workforce demand.
