Description

Sunshine Residential Homes is seeking Behavioral Health Technician Drivers to perform all major functions of our BHT’s as well as assist with day-to-day driving. The drivers’ main responsibilities are to safely transport passengers from one location to another. These can include transporting clients to other Sunshine homes, schools, and appointments.

BHT Drivers will need to be comfortable driving 12 – 15 passenger van safely and effectively.

Safety is crucial and drivers should understand how to adjust driving to account for the differences between cars and 15 passenger vans. Driving and transporting clients safely is a crucial function at Sunshine. As staff, we are charged with caring for a vulnerable population. Sunshine staff are expected to abide by Arizona traffic laws.

Sunshine’s State contract lists requirements for staff who are allowed to transport clients.



Requirements

  • No revocation of driver’s license in the last 5 years.
  • No DUIs or DWIs in the last 5 years.
  • No “At Fault” accidents in the last 5 years.
  • No more than 2 moving violations in the past 5 years.
  • No more than 1 excessive speeding in the past 5 years.
  • No criminal violations during the life of the contract or in the 5 years preceding the contract; and
  • No suspensions or revocations of driver’s licenses related to a traffic violation. Employees, who have had their license suspended or revoked for issues other than moving violations with the last three (3) years, are able to provide transportation as long as their license has been reinstated and they have no further moving or non-moving violation for at least six

(6) months from the first date of suspension.

Continued employment contingent upon satisfactory supervisor’s evaluation, meeting continuing education requirements, and continual achievement of all agency’s contractual and licensing requirements for personnel.

 

Outside of driving as the primary responsibility, the BHT Driver will be expected to perform all other functions that are required of a
BHT.

General Role Functions

The DCS’s main responsibility is to maintain a safe, productive, pleasant, and joyful environment while providing support, supervision, and care for the children living within SRH group homes. The DCS will accomplish this by implementing, monitoring, and documenting the daily schedule, directing interactions, utilizing positive behavioral management techniques, and facilitating therapeutic, recreational, and social skills. The DCS must demonstrate positive role model skills and appropriate ethical behavior while adhering to agency standards of practice for clients, staff and the public.

Reports to: House Manager and Administration

Daily Living

- Execute and oversee the HM-Approved daily living routine (i.e.: school, activities, events, chores, homework, appointments, etc.) for SRHAZ clients, seeking prior approval before making any changes.

- Attend to the physical, emotional, and medical needs of clients.

- Ensure health and safety standards are maintained.

- Administer medication to clients per SRHAZ Policies & Procedures.

- Additional daily duties will include but are not limited to: transporting clients in Sunshine van or personal vehicle, preparing meals in accordance with posted menu, maintenance, cleanliness and upkeep of the group home.

Behavior Management

- Implement behavioral limits which have been established by the home, focusing on positive behavior management, and offering approved, age-appropriate consequences when necessary.

- Proactively recognize and de-escalate mounting situations, such as aggressive behavior, to minimize potential harm to client, peers, and/or property – physically intervening only when in accordance with State and SRHAZ Policy and Procedure.

- Resist manipulation and avoids engaging in power-struggles with clients.

Trauma Informed Care

- Offers consistent and predictable approach to clients’ behavior through emotional warmth, affection, and support.

- Assists children in developing coping skills for all feelings.

- Allows clients the opportunity to appropriately vent feelings without fear of adult reprisal.

- Ensures that clients’ need for privacy and individuality are respected.

Reporting and Communication

- Provides written incident reports regarding individuals’ daily activities and progress – ensuring immediate reporting of all incidents to supervisor(s).

- Ensures that all required documentation is complete and accurate per SRHAZ Policy &

Procedure prior to leaving shift.

Intakes & Discharges

- Facilitate any client intakes and/or discharges that take place during your shift, adhering to

SRHAZ Policy & Procedure.

Additional Responsibilities

- Contribute to team effectiveness through clear and direct communication, participation in staff meetings and agency wide trainings, offering ideas to improve workflow, and seeking guidance and approval from supervisor.

- Be familiar with and adhere to all SRHAZ Policies & Procedures always.

- Any other duties as assigned by supervisor(s).

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes. The employee’s vision must be adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. The position requires good manual dexterity. The position requires lifting up to 50 pounds. The position requires walking, kneeling, stooping, bending, and climbing stairs regularly.
