POSITION SUMMARY
The BridgeBuilders Program helps to connect people from different backgrounds to promote a shared understanding of the challenges facing inner-city communities. Those from an outside context typically hear and see mostly negative portrayals of the inner city, often contributing to unhelpful labeling and misguided interactions. We believe the giftedness of the community is more clearly seen through fostering healthy, meaningful experiences that combine learning with active engagement.
The BridgeBuilders program is in need of two (2) summer interns. These interns will contribute to the day-to-day operations of the program. Responsibilities are varied but include establishing relationships with incoming service-learning teams, food preparation, guiding service-learning experiences, and maintaining relationships with local organizations and community members. Perks of the internship include:

- Meals while serving BridgeBuilders Program participants
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / FUNCTIONS
- Contributes to the planning and execution of BridgeBuilders Program lessons and educational experiences.
- Assists in the promotion and marketing efforts of the BridgeBuilders Program.
- Facilitates service-learning experiences by accompanying BridgeBuilders Program participants and supporting program activities.
- Coordinates and prepares meals for nightly dining, ensuring quality and efficiency in food service.
- Assists in the upkeep of BridgeBuilders Program housing accommodations to ensure a safe and comfortable environment.
- Represents the BridgeBuilders Program by attending church services, conventions, and conferences to promote the
program. - Performs additional duties as required or assigned, contributing to the overall success of the BridgeBuilders Program.
RELATED DUTIES
Work weeks will range from 35-40 hours with some shifts lasting 9-10 hours.
EDUCATION SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED:
- Current student enrolled in a degree program or recent college graduate.
- Basic understanding of biblical Christian faith.
- Ability to develop positive relationships across cultural barriers.
- Cultural sensitivity to the African American community.
- Coordinate cross organizationally to ensure healthy collaboration with other Sunshine staff.
- Have availability from May 27, 2025 – August 29, 2025.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORKING CONDITIONS
Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to walk and/or sit; use hands to fingers or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must be able to bend, stoop, pull, push, lift, as well as have overhead extension of arms. Must be able to stand for long periods of time; be able to lift, carry or move at least 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
Work environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work in a public building and/or outdoors and thus will be exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The intern will work and maintain the cleanliness and safety of Sunshine property, staff, and participants. Some work may include physical labor such as gardening and property management. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but at times, can be high.
