Summary
This role supports mission-critical technology systems and network services for a statewide enterprise environment. The Network Engineer will work closely with architecture, application, technical, and security teams to design, implement, secure, and maintain a stable and consistent network infrastructure. The position supports multiple large-scale initiatives and requires strong technical depth across Cisco and Meraki technologies.
Position Overview
The Network Engineer will demonstrate expert-level skills in monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting a statewide WAN, LAN, and wireless network environment primarily using Cisco and Meraki solutions. The role includes hands-on configuration, patching, and administration of Cisco firewalls, routers, and switches, along with Meraki switches, wireless access points, and firewalls.
The engineer will also collaborate with external IT teams across the state and provide remote troubleshooting support—requiring broad knowledge of multiple firewall technologies and strong communication skills. Some projects will require full lifecycle ownership, including requirements definition, architectural design, implementation, documentation, and support.
Daily Responsibilities

· Cisco hardware administration
· 5 years designing and operating public and/or private networks (LAN/MAN/WAN), including servers, routers, switches, firewalls, network management, and remote access systems.
· 4 years supporting Microsoft network communications, including hybrid networking, routing, security, and Azure private access.

Daily Responsibilities
- Monitor and support statewide site-to-site VPN tunnel infrastructure.
- Develop detailed implementation and test plans for Cisco/Meraki technologies and enterprise networking tools.
- Research, evaluate, and support software releases and upgrades for network infrastructure.
- Record, update, and document service requests using the organization’s IT service desk system.
- Monitor and analyze system logs to improve performance, reliability, scalability, and security.
- Provide remote communications troubleshooting support for internal systems and integrated partner systems.
- Assess system-level design decisions, communicate implications, and propose mitigation or optimization strategies.
- Define and communicate component-level requirements in alignment with larger system and project goals.
- Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to ensure project success.
- 4–6 years of experience with:
- Cisco Firewalls
- Cisco Routers
- Cisco Switches
- Cisco CCNA-level skills

- Wireshark
- Ability to clearly communicate infrastructure designs, architectural decisions, strengths/weaknesses, and recommended solutions.
