Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms and sterilize instruments following aseptic techniques to maintain a safe, infection-free environment
- Assist orthodontists during procedures such as bracket placement, wire adjustments, and appliance fittings using four-handed dentistry techniques
- Take and develop dental X-rays, including panoramic and intraoral images, ensuring proper positioning and patient comfort
- Manage electronic health records using EMR systems like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accurate documentation of medical history, treatment plans, and progress notes
- Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, appliance maintenance, and oral hygiene practices tailored for pediatric dentistry and general dentistry needs
- Monitor vital signs when necessary to ensure patient safety during procedures
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
Experience
- Proven experience working as a dental assistant within a dental clinic setting, preferably with orthodontic or pediatric dentistry experience
- Familiarity with dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding to accurately document procedures and treatments
- Proficiency in using dental software systems such as Epic, Dentrix, platforms for efficient record management
- Knowledge of infection control protocols, sterilization procedures, and aseptic techniques essential for maintaining a safe clinical environment
- Ability to operate dental imaging equipment including 3D scanners and X-ray machines with precision
- Strong understanding of anatomy relevant to dentistry to assist with complex procedures involving prosthodontics or endodontics when needed
- Excellent communication skills as a dental receptionist to coordinate patient flow smoothly while providing outstanding customer service
