Equipment Operator – Entry Level

Sunset Stone Co. is hiring an Entry Level Equipment Operator at our quarry operation in Wamego, KS. This is a great opportunity to build a hands-on career in the stone and aggregate industry — no prior equipment experience required. We will train the right candidate from day one!

Position: Equipment Operator – Entry Level

Location: Wamego, KS (quarry)

Pay: $18–$20/hour DOE

Job Type: Full-time

Responsibilities:

- Learn to safely operate quarry equipment including front-end loaders, skid steers, and haul trucks under the direct supervision of experienced operators

- Assist with day-to-day quarry production tasks including loading, stockpiling, and transporting crushed stone, gravel, limestone, and other aggregate materials around the quarry site

- Ride along and shadow lead operators on larger equipment such as bulldozers and excavators during the training period, building skills toward independent operation

- Perform pre-shift and post-shift walk-around inspections on assigned equipment — checking fluid levels, belts, tires, lights, and safety systems before and after each shift

- Report any mechanical issues, unusual equipment behavior, or site hazards to a supervisor immediately

- Keep equipment clean and properly staged at the end of each shift

- Follow all site safety protocols including hard hat, safety vest, steel-toed boots, and other required PPE at all times

- Communicate daily with site supervisors and lead operators regarding task assignments and production priorities

- Assist with general site cleanup, housekeeping, and maintenance of quarry roads and stockpile areas

- Participate in daily safety briefings, toolbox talks, and on-the-job training sessions

- Support crusher operations and conveyor systems by keeping feed areas clear and material flowing as directed

Requirements:

- No experience necessary — entry level, we will train the right candidate

- Willingness to learn to operate heavy equipment in an outdoor, industrial environment

- Dependable, safety-minded, and hardworking

- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions year-round

- Valid driver's license preferred
