JOB TITLE:  Instructional Technician 

EXEMPT:     No                                                            

SALARY LEVEL: 116                                                       

LOCATION: Sunset Ridge      

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 9 Month

REPORTS TO: School Principal

SUMMARY:  The instructional technician takes responsibility for most of the remotely located teacher’s non-instructional duties, as designated by each teacher. The instructional technician manages procedures and student behavior during transitions and while the remotely located teacher delivers instruction. (S)he works closely with the remotely located teachers to coordinate various administrative duties and completes paperwork. (S)he monitors and develops students’ social/emotional, behavioral, time and task management, and self-motivation skills. (S)he identifies and seeks help from school leadership, remotely located teachers, and resource teachers for the most difficult challenges. (S)he monitors students’ academic progress based on data provided by the remotely located teacher(s), ensuring that teacher(s) and/or tutors follow up with the student as needed, and participating in interventions with parents when needed. The instructional technician collaborates with tutors, digital lab monitors, and other staff to monitor and address students’ overall development.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma and/or GED
  • 6o College Credits or AA Degree or Passed Paraprofessional Exam
  • Three years of experience related to student supervision and assisting instruction
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work with people; students; staff and public
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision
  • Ability to accept direction and constructive criticism
  • Excellent organizational skills

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Participation in district offered training, either directly from district staff or through university partnerships, for instructional technicians
  • Knowledge of content area assigned
  • Previous experience working with children, coaching and counseling roles a plus
  • Preference given for experience working successfully with those of similar demographics to the desired school placement

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Classroom and School Environment

  1. Hold students accountable for high expectations of behavior and engagement that are ambitious and measurable
  2. Create physical classroom environments conducive to collaborative and individual learning
  3. Establish a culture of learning (both direct and remote), respect, enthusiasm, and rapport
  4. Manage student transitions between classes (behavior and procedures in the hallway, in the classrooms before and after classes, bathroom breaks, dismissal, etc.)
  5. Supervise students during less structured times (breakfast, recess, lunch, assemblies)
  1. Monitor independent work time in classroom while remotely located teacher works in small groups

 

 

Instruction

  1. Identify and address individual students’ social, emotional, and behavioral learning needs and barriers
  2. Identify and address individual students’ development of organizational and time-management skills

 

Professional Responsibilities

  1. Solicit and eagerly receive feedback from supervisor and team members to improve professional skills
  2. Maintain administrative duties on behalf of remotely located teacher (such as taking attendance, entering grades, scheduling parent conferences, preparing student activities and assignments, checking homework, additional paperwork)

  1. Participate in professional development opportunities at school
  2. Assists in the preparation and presentation to students, an overview of the school wide discipline plan, at the beginning of each school year and periodically as requested by the staff.
  3. Assists in the prevention of inappropriate student behavior by visiting classrooms and maintaining close contact on a daily basis with students who have been identified by the staff.
  4. Assist with parent contacts as necessary.
  5. Maintains confidentiality of information regarding students and staff
  6. Complies with all policies and procedures established by the school board and school administration.
  7. Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee

 

EVALUATION:  At least once annually in accordance with Governing Board Policy

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:  Ability to work with mathematics in the area of budgets, expenditures and revenues.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations and proportions to practical situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. 

The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel crouch, or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands:  significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent  stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; and significant fine-finger dexterity.  Generally the job requires 34% sitting, 33% walking and 33% standing.  The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and some hazardous conditions.
