Cemetery Grounds Maintenance

Summary/Primary Duties:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Grounds Maintenance Worker to join our team. Assist with preparation of burial locations, setting markers, park maintenance, maintenance of buildings and equipment, seasonal programs, service record keeping of equipment and shop, concrete mold work with vaults and their painting as well as other duties as assigned. Reports to the Grounds Supervisor and General Manager.

Job Requirements:

The candidate must possess a valid SD driver’s license. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. There is a lot of walking and standing, use of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, and packers. Candidate must be able to handle various motorized equipment as well as power tools. Must be able to work in all seasons and weather conditions. The successful candidate must be able to pay attention to detail, be able to multi-task. Must work well with other staff and the public with emphasis on being courteous to the families served.

There is no direct contact with the deceased body. The cemetery requires the deceased to be encased in a casket.

Days/Hours of Work:

Saturdays and Sundays are considered time off except in the case of Saturday burials. Hours for regular work week is M-F, 30-40 hours. Employees may rotate M-F hours to accommodate Saturday hours if possible. Overtime is on a very limited basis.

Other information:

Full-time employees receive 6 paid holidays, PTO & health benefits if desired. Overtime is paid for any time over 40 hours.
