Logistics and Safety Manager
The Logistics and Safety Manager will be responsible for complete oversight of the profitability and productivity of the Sunset Cartage fleet. This includes Logistics Supervisors, Logistics Representatives, and indirect management of all Drivers. Daily tasks include monitoring the daily operations, maintaining, and tracking all trucks within the fleet, knowledge of daily assignments of company trucks and IMCs, tracking customer job assignments, ensuring customer satisfaction and delivery of services. This role will also oversee the development of all safety programs in accordance with applicable federal, state and location regulations. Developing, monitoring and evaluation and improvement surrounding safety and compliance matters, working with applicable staff around disciplinary action, inspections and reporting requirements are being met in areas of DOT incidents, and navigation of such matters with the Safety Advisory board and in connection with DOT requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Work diligently with the Sales team and Logistics team to oversee logistics operations and ensure delivery of services that meet customer demands.
- Assist in all aspects of logistics operations as needed, including driver communication, monitoring of dispatching services, and serving as a last line of defense for fulfilling customer services.
- Responsible for maximizing profitability of Logistics and Cartage fleets.
- Create a culture of high-level communication between the Logistics team, customers, and drivers regarding operational challenges, updates, and ETAs in a professional and timely manner.
- Maintain constant inventory of truck fleet, including trucks that need drivers, trucks out of service, number of trucks in the fleet currently being used on a day-to-day basis, and trucks not being utilized due to driver absence, PTO, and work injuries.
- Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve written safety and compliance protocols for all companies in the areas of DOT, including obtaining required certifications and training for the role. Conduct personnel training and guidance in all areas of safety.
- Investigate and finalize all safety-related incidents, including working with applicable authorities, insurance companies, the Safety Advisory Board, applicable staff, HR, and Logistic Supervisors regarding disciplinary steps.
- Through technology and other means, ensure compliance with Electronic Driver Log requirements and driver inspection reports (DVIR) processes for drivers. Establish company driver truck safety operating procedures and ensure daily monitoring or electronic truck safety tools (i.e., speeding, hard braking, hard turns, etc.). Based on these findings, work with Logistic team (and HR as needed) to evaluate driver performance in these areas and ensure proper corrective action is taken. Routinely audit DVIR compliance.
- Maintain all reporting and inspection requirements with DOT.
- Manage regulatory-required company drug testing procedures in coordination with HR and applicable Logistic Supervisors.

Position Requirements:

- Equipped to present accurate fleet data and respond to questions from the leadership team, employees, and customers.
- Ability to work as a team player in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that regularly requires a shift in focus and job responsibilities throughout the day.
- Ability to organize information regarding fleet status and metrics in a logical way and maintain records and data for presentation or as requested by the leadership team.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.

- Project management and customer relationship management.
- Bachelor’s degree in business management, Transportation is preferred but not required. Logistics Industry Experience in lieu of degree would be considered.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $85,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
