Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment like Hoyer lifts when necessary.
- Monitor and record vital signs accurately, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates, ensuring timely communication of changes to the healthcare team.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper documentation in electronic health records (EHR) systems while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
- Provide emotional comfort and companionship to patients and their families, respecting cultural preferences and individual needs.
- Maintain a safe environment by following aseptic techniques and infection control protocols, especially when working with infectious disease cases or in hospice settings.
- Assist with medical procedures such as catheter care or basic wound management as directed by nursing staff.
- Document patient care activities thoroughly in medical records, ensuring accuracy and compliance with healthcare standards.
Requirements
- Valid certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) with current state licensure.
- Prior experience in hospice care or working with individuals facing terminal illnesses is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner; experience with EHR systems like eClinicalWorks is a plus.
- Experience in diverse healthcare environments including long-term care facilities, hospitals (including ICU or Level I Trauma Centers), assisted living communities, or home care settings.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS).
- Ability to work effectively with patients requiring dementia or Alzheimer's care, memory care, behavioral health support, or palliative services.
- Strong caregiving skills combined with excellent communication abilities; compassionate attitude essential for providing holistic patient-centered care.
- Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and assist with patient transfers using equipment such as Hoyer lifts or transfer belts.
