Nursery through 6th grade

Our Kids Ministry (ages 0-12) is growing and accounts for almost 1/3 of our church! We're excited to bring on a member of our team to help give leadership and vision to one of our most important ministries.

Where are we located?

Sunset Community Church is in Renton, Washington which is adjacent to South Seattle. Our church is situated in an area of Renton that has been undergoing significant revitalization and is predicted to explode in growth in the next few years. Renton as a city is one of the most diverse cities in the United States.

Children’s Ministry Director Job Description

Position Summary

The Children’s Ministry Director at Sunset Community Church provides vision, leadership, and oversight for the church’s discipleship programs for children from birth through 5th grade. This individual demonstrates a strong passion for the entire church family and is committed to discipling both children and the volunteers who serve in children’s ministry.

Status: Part-time
Hours: Approximately 20 hours per week

Leadership & Vision

- Cast vision and provide direction for the children’s ministry.

- Recruit, develop, and lead a strong team of volunteers.

- Build and maintain a healthy leadership team within the ministry.

- Lead volunteer trainings and foster ongoing development.

Volunteer Care & Development

- Support and equip volunteers through encouragement, resources, feedback, and appreciation.

- Provide consistent communication and regular support for all team members.

- Maintain up-to-date records including volunteer applications, contact information, and background checks.

Ministry Operations

- Oversee scheduling, safety procedures, and volunteer systems.

- Manage the children’s ministry budget and expenses.

- Organize and maintain resource rooms, classrooms, and ministry spaces.

- Ensure check-in areas, signage, and environments are clear, welcoming, and family-focused.

Programming & Curriculum

- Plan and implement engaging, age-appropriate programs.

- Prepare curriculum and classrooms as needed.

- Create environments that foster spiritual growth and meaningful experiences.

- Ensure inclusivity and safety for all children, including those with special needs.

Family & Church Engagement

- Develop and improve systems for welcoming and following up with new families.

- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians.

- Engage actively in the church body by attending worship services and participating in events when possible.

- Encourage family involvement in the life of the church.

Safety & Compliance

- Maintain and oversee systems for background checks and safety protocols.

- Ensure all ministry environments are secure and aligned with church policies.

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
