Sunrock is seeking an experienced Utility Pipe Layer to support underground utility construction projects. The Pipe Layer is responsible for installing water, sewer, and storm drainage systems using various pipe materials, ensuring proper alignment, grade, and compaction. This role works closely with equipment operators and field crews to complete safe, accurate, and productive installation work.
This position requires 1 years of experience installing utility pipe, including but not limited to ductile iron, RCP (reinforced concrete pipe), concrete pipe, PVC, and HDPE.
Minimum Qualifications
Job Locations : Employees are expected to have their own transportation to the jobsite and be there by starting time. Start time may be adjusted due to seasons, job type, or schedule. Typically, this is 7 AM. Sunrock hires and places new hires based off open positions needed on our crews. Sunrock cannot guarantee that employees will work close to where they live. Nor can we make changes to our crews to accommodate such requests.
Guaranteed Time: You must be employed for 90 days to be eligible for assured time. Between March 15 th and December 15 th , employees are assured 24 hours. Employees must be willing and prepared to work to qualify for assured time. Between December 15th and March 15 th , employees are assured 40 hours. Again, employees must be willing and prepared to work to qualify for assured time.

Minimum Qualifications
- 1 years of experience installing utility pipe (water, sewer, storm)
- Experience with ductile iron, RCP, concrete pipe, PVC, HDPE, or similar pipe systems
- Ability to read grade stakes and understand elevations, slopes, and line/grade requirements
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Strong understanding of trench safety and safe work zone practices
- Reliable transportation; valid driver’s license preferred
- High School Diploma or GED preferred
- Install water, sewer, and storm drainage systems using ductile iron, RCP, concrete, PVC, and HDPE pipes
- Set pipe to line and grade using levels, lasers, and grade references
- Assist with trenching, bedding, backfilling, and compaction
- Work with equipment operators to maintain trench safety and production flow
- Cut, join, and seal pipe connections using approved methods
- Identify and correct grade issues or alignment variances
- Perform jobsite cleanup, material handling, and related labor tasks as needed
- Follow all OSHA, NCDOT, and company safety procedures
- Communicate effectively with crew members, operators, and supervisors
- Utility pipe installation (ductile iron, RCP, concrete, PVC, HDPE)
- Reading grade stakes and laser levels
- Knowledge of trench safety and soil conditions
- Ability to operate hand tools and pipe installation tools
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Problem-solving and attention to detail
- Ability to meet production and quality expectations
- Frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 75 lbs
- Ability to work in trenches and around heavy equipment
- Exposure to heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, and construction noise
